Bottle. Brown pour with an off white head. Lots of pine, roast, notes of chocolate, fruity sweetness, grapefruit, and moderate bitterness. My bottle says 5.8% abv. Good.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Keg at the Well & Bucket, during the London Bimble. It pours cloudy ruby with a thick beige head. The nose is earthy, toasty, rich roast and charred earth. The taste is bitter, roasty, toast, earth, charred wood and peppery grapefruit with a dry, bitter finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Good flavour for the abv. Nice stuff.

Bottle. Dark brown body, big creamy offwhite head. Aroma of grapefruit, licorice, roast. Taste of caramel, pine, citrus, heavy bitterness, though a very short bitter fruity aftertaste. I feel itís missing that final hop punch, but a bad beer it surely isnít.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draught, 23 Club, Liverpool. Dark brown looks with a smallish tan head. Piney hop, citrus, choc and a hint of roast present in the beak. A similar yarn unfolded in the sweetish flavour with some very tidy hop bitterness. Extremely drinkable and moreish. Great stuff. Meow.

Tap at Mikkeller BKK in mid-March. An interesting Italian take on the IPA. More sour hop notes than youíd be used to drinking an American or English IPA. Still hoppy, but with sour grass. Good, not my favorite.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cola-like pour with thin, quickly fading pale brown head. Slightly floral, slightly soapy aroma. Sweet, caramel, chocolate, a little aniseed, fairly strong bitterness. Interesting

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler. Amber with a modest pale beige head. Aroma of grapefruit, toast, a hint of chocolate. Truly bittersweet - no separate sweetness and bitterness, but lingering grapefruit and pine after sticky breadcrust and a little chocolate depart. Chirpy and engaging.

Sold to me as a Black IPA but Iím not sure it quite fits the category. Itís still a fine beer; dark coloured, hoppy background but not overpowering, fresh malt and a sharp tang. Creamy head but perhaps a little lacking in complexity and bitterness.
