Editor’s note: wrongly listed at 10% in 2013 on the brewery website, while labels report 9.2%

33cl bottle from Mother Kelly’s. It pours a deep dark brown color with the tiniest ruby edges. Head is small and mocha colored, but foam dissipates quickly. Roasty toasty character with notes of coffee beans and cocoa powder. Taste is wuite sweet with roasted malts, but coffee bitterness balances it out. Some light licorice root notes. Quite full in body and soft carbonation. Overall, good but not exeptional for the style.

Gran bella birra, molto maltata con poca schiuma. Appare subito molto scura, quasi torbida.

Cola black beer with a dark beige head. Sweet, red berries and some coffee on the nose. Medium body. Red berries and coffee again in the flavor. Not very bitter. Some tartness but is not sour. Tastes a bit alcoholic. Tastewise this is quite simple. This is an OK but uninteresting imperial stout.

For mine, the alcohol flavour over-takes the stout flavours too much. It does leave a pleasing taste on the teeth and lips, that I can’t describe, but not a big-flavoured stout. On tap at the Wheaty.

33 cl bottle from Eataly (€ 3,80) in Torino, June 2014. Pours a deep black with reddish edges and dark tan head that disappears fast. Nose is malty, roasty, alcoholic, slightly sweet of bitterish dark chocolate. Rather robust. More dark fruits as it warms. Taste is more on the sweet side. Chocolate, cocoa, caramel, also plum + chocolate liqueur. Medium to heavy body, not much carbonation though crisp when swallowed; disturbingly oily mouthfeel. Metallic aftertaste with lingering alcohol. A tough one. The Soviet-style label is perfect for this boozy hardass.

UPDATED: MAY 9, 2014 Bottiglia bellissima che rapisce al primo sguardo. Schiuma leggera, profumo intenso e pungente. Ottima imperial artigianale.
