courtesy of fiulijn - very dark brown almost black coloured and with no foam left; aroma of licorice and dark cherries with a fair hop presence; chocolate and ashes; full-bodied and a low carbonation; creamy and smooth palate, some sweetness; sweetish aftertaste with notes of cane sugar - a bit weird

This rating for a 10% bottle called Birra del Borgo Johnny Off License Imperial Staut. I’m putting it under the regular Birra del Borgo Impirial Staut, not sure if we should make a different entry
In short: A well rounded imperial stout that can stand up to most classic of the style
How: Bottle 330ml. Consumed (fresh?) the day of purchase from Johnny Off Licence.
The look: Near black body topped by a small tan head.
In long: The typical but pleasant nose is roasted, coffee, chocolaty and with a bit of smoke. Body is full and a bit viscous. Taste is chocolate cake, black coffee, raisins, burnt wood, some tar, freshly cut coniferous wood. Complex, well balanced, nourishing and way too easy to drink. Alcohol is extremely well hidden. I never thought that Italy were making imperial stouts that could stand up to most top American Imperial Stouts. In my own naïve word I imagined Italy was a country full of mozzarella fields, pizza trees, and cheerful plumbers named Mario and Luigi.
