Draft @ Blind Tiger. Golden pour with white head. Grainy malt, damp basement and yeast aromas. Flavor was mish mash: earthy, citrus, skunky sour. Eck.

Had on draft at Thirsty Monk in Asheville. Pretty intense aromatics, nutty notes, bright and fresh. The body is fairly light, not to say it is lacking in flavor. or intensity. Very crisp, bitter, extremely dry style. Finish leaves a bit to be desired, drops off rather quickly. Pleasant, though a bit pricy. ($7.50)

Draught pour from The Thirsty Monk in Asheville. This beer took me by surprise. Clear yellow pour with white head. Nose of lovely Saaz hops, and I swear Hallertau. Very plisner-like, spicey and grassy and floral but also fruity... like some exotic fruit I’ve never had before. This was a really unique beer to me, and I enjoyed it immensely. Would love to seek out more of this style or see more of it. I doubt it would bottle very well (or for very long). Yum.

Cask at the White Horse Old Ale Festival, 27th Nov 09. Hazy amber. Fresh North American hop aroma. NA hops on the initial taste too but the palate drops off nearly instantly and doesn’t retain the flavour.

Very pale golden pour. The nose is quite sweet with lots of sweet malt character. A little bit of honey and herbal malt character as well. Lightly grassy nose behind the sweetish malts. It is very hoppy on the palate with a very assertive bitterness. It’s really kind of a mess. Some nice aromatics but they’re clobbered by being too boozy, too bitter and just too much.

Tap at Redlight. Big pillowy white head, light gold body. Huge hop aroma, very aggressive. Nice clean lager profile with a big hop bitterness. Very good.

(Cask, by gravity, at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 29 Nov 2009) Hazy copper colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with grapefruit, resin and pine needles. Fruity, hoppy taste with notes of grapefruit, resin and pine needles. Rather sweet with intense hop flavours. Full body, chewy mouthfeel. Slightly over the top and hardly very well balanced, but still a very tasty beer with an impressive hop presence. Nice one.
