Bottle... Cloudy brown ale with a minuscule, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. The bouquet offers singed caramel, crusted port and dark raisins - loads of them. Medium-bodied with busy carbonation. The flavor is sweet and moderately acidic - dark raisins and a hint of dried plum with a light splash of oloroso sherry. Finishes tangy and a bit lactic. Bottle courtesy of ctipping!

Bottle: Poured super cloudy dark brown color ale with a small foamy head with minimal retention and some light lacing. Aroma of brown sugar with some dried fruits notes is quite intense. Taste is also dominated by loads of sugar with some dried fruits thought still balanced by a solid malt backbone. Body is full with limited filtration and medium carbonation with no apparent alcohol. This is quite sweet but never gets into gross territory and stays somewhat drinkable with a good amount of complexity.

03/01/2013 330ml bottle (Vintage 2010). Corpo pieno, carbonazione leggera. Barley Wine sontuoso!

CanIHave4Beers (2495) - Des Moines, Iowa, USA - JAN 24, 2013
Pours a very hazy dark brown color with almost no head at all.

The aroma is very big, very grapey, and sweet with a lot of maltiness, wood, and a touch of balsamic vinegar.

The flavor is sweet & earthy. A touch of tartness works well alongside the grape character. The beer is warming and boozy, but no where near as boozy as one would guess for a 16% abv beer. The flavor is full of dark fruit and maple syrup character.

Really something!

Thanks to CanIHave4Beers for sharing this. Pours a muddy dark brown. Smells like balsamic vinegar and grapes. Cat pee. Flavor isn’t as balsamic-y. Kinda salty. Definitely doesn’t seem like 16%. Maple syrup.

Big thanks to Masterski for sharing this one. Nice sherry like aromas with some fruit and sweetness. Flavor is not at all overpowering with booze considering the ABV. Worth a try.

(12.4oz bottle) Pours a murky mahogany body with a spare beige head. Aroma of caramel, oak, vinous, light roasted malt, and raisins. Flavor of caramel, oak, port, vanilla, molasses, anise, and brown sugar with a dry, bitter, alcoholic finish.

Pour is a murky dark brown with a light brown head. Nose is chocolate malt up front with yeast behind. Sweet chardonay notes, meaty with big smokiness in back accompanied by a tinge of alcohol. Malt notes up front, sweetness is very strong with dark fruits and decent vinous notes. Lingering chocolate bitterness in the finish. Medium body with soft juicy feel and good crisp well carbonated finish.

Bottle, shared october 20th 2012. Totally black body, small tanned head. Rich aroma of dried fruit, vanilla, caramel and red wine. Delicious. Thick viscocity. Very nice complex taste, roast and coffee, red fruits, wood, nuts and chocolate. Would not have guessed 16%, maybe around 10. Warm malty bitter finish with chocolate and earthy hops. This one really stood out for me.

Bottle. A dark brown to black beer, with a large, frothy, fully diminishing, light brown head. The aroma is moderately to heavily malty (caramel, molasses, toasted/roasted grain), moderately yeasty (mold, leather, dusty attic), with notes of alcohol, vanilla, dried dark fruits, oak/wood, sugar. The flavor is heavily sweet, lightly to moderately acidic. Full body, thick/syrupy texture, soft carbonation, long finish with light to moderate bitterness, moderately to heavily alcoholic. Firstly I had to put somehow up with the sweetness, but after it warmed a little bit, it revealed a whole world full of aromas and flavors. Inevitable alcoholic aftertaste, but not exaggerated, especially if you’re in the mood for something like that. Fantastic.
