Thanks to CanIHave4Beers for sharing this. Pours a muddy dark brown. Smells like balsamic vinegar and grapes. Cat pee. Flavor isn’t as balsamic-y. Kinda salty. Definitely doesn’t seem like 16%. Maple syrup.

Flaska. Dimmigt mörkbrun med ett litet smutsvitt skum. Dofter av rödvin, läder, karamell, russin och sura bär. Smakinslag av läder, trä, rödvin och torkad frukt. Medelstor kropp. Alkoholen väl dold i smaken.

Wonderful. I love this one. No carbonation at all, which feels a bit strange since I’m not used to it. But the taste compensates. A whole lot of dried fruits, plums, raisins. A bit of a sour taste but not overpowering. The sweetness and alcoholic feel from Barley Wine is still very much present, and the champagne yeast add another dimension that I can’t quite describe. A long, warming, almost dry finish. Reminds me a lot of Samuel Adams Utopias - but for a much better price!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from K&L. Pours dark murky mahogany, flat, no head or lacing. Aroma is roasty, hints of tart red grapes, vinous, dark fruits, raisins, plums, hints of Brett. Flavor is fairly sweet, lightly bitter, hugely vinous, dark fruits and some dark sugars abound. Fruitcake. Medium body, soft rich mouthfeel, no carbonation.

1st Edition in Rome. Thanks Mortlach! Light root beer brown, mostly clear. A few soapy bubbles, wax, earthy resin. Flat stale root beer. A little thin, completely oxidized. A little vanilla, body is a disappointment. Touch molasses, fizzy. A miss due to age.

Kolsvart utan något skum. 0 kolsyra... Doftar och smakar russin, körsbär, ek, portvin och något syrlig/sur. Ingen barley wine.. kolsyra hade höjt den..

Pours dark brown with no head
Aromas loaded of maltyness, dried fruits, burned caramel, pepper, liqourize, vinous alcohol, hints of sour cherries
Taste has very nice oaky notes of cherries, burned caramel, sweet fruits, vinous alcohol, hints of liqourize, tart ripe apples
Very well balanced barley wine that hides the high abv nicely

Pours a deep amber color, with a two finger off white head that had some staying power. Aromas of hops, sweet malts, and some more hops. Flavor isn’t as sweet as I was led to believe. You can taste the alcohol from the get go, what follows is a nice mellow caramel/brown sugar (I Guess) sweetness that finishes with a nice bitter hop.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Light hazy deep brown liquid with minimal tan head. Aroma of chocolate, red onion, wood, lemon, coffee, red wine, red berries and oak. Taste is light to medium sweet and light bitter with notes of red berries, chocolate, raisins, tannins and oak. Full bodied with low carbonation. Nice, but a bit sour and weird. Reminds me of Oud Bruin.

First batch bottled in 2008, shared by Mortlach. 8 years old. Thanks. Dark caramel, no foam. Nose: powerful aroma of red fruit jam, macerated fruit, dry figs. Nice. Mouth: far too flat, oxidation did not work well, gone cola. This bottle has not aged well.
