Bottle in the hotel - Rome. Picked up at Johnny’s Off Licence. Pours clear gold, effervescent, with a frothy white head. Aroma holds some dried orange and grapefruit, a bit of pale bread, some spicy pine needles. Medium sweet flavor with some dirty grass and hay, more citrus fruits, a bit of rind, mellow sticky pine. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Somewhat sticky and resinous to finish, more rindy citrus fruit character, grassy bitterness, mild alcohol kick. Decent.

Draught. The beer was given at the Italian Beer Weekend @ Moeder Lambic Fontainas, and announced as 5.5% ABV. In that case, this is an APA or IPA, in the ABV as above, this would be a Session IPA Huge, ultrafine & dense, lightly yellowish head over faintly veiled orange-golden beer. C hops and old sports shoes (sorry, but that clinches it exactly). Fruity, citruszeste, resin, bit of pine. Bit of human sweat, slight malty sweetness, citrus acidity and lots of hops (more than expected from a blond ale - nearly APA). Dry spicy seeds (fenegreek?). Quite slick, bit oily even (again pointing at the hops). Feels better carbonated than it looks. Quite good, but blind I wouldn’t call it a golden ale. And it is not what the name hints at, neither.

My Bottom Line:
White grapefruit and floral undertones surf this brew’s soft, plump mouthfeel, leading to resinous bitterness and much drinkability.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sliver of foam sits atop the hazy blond.
-The flavour profile is hop dominant.
-Aroma could be more refined.
-This is very close to being what the Americans call a Session IPA nowadays. Put it on cask and it becomes an English Golden Ale though. ;)

On tap at Bir&Fud.

Draft @ ML Fontainas, Italian Fest Sept ’14. Stars and Stripes.

[10/18/13] Draught at Bir & Fud in Rome. Slightly hazy golden. Hoppy aroma, citric and floral, with piney notes and light yeasty nots. Flavor is a bit sweetish with a bit of yeast, light fruitiness, floral hops, some bitterness and some soapy notes. Medium-bodied.
