4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 maxhits (172) - Pico Rivera, USA - OCT 30, 2002
I am fairly sure that per-capita wine consumption in Italy outstrips beer consumption by a wide margin (at least in the southern regions), which fact is good news for beer lovers in the rest of the world. Flavor and aroma of roasted nuts and plum fruit, with a sweet malt signature suggestive of Spaten’s Optimator -- also rated at 7.2% ABV.

Aroma of molten caramel, cookie dough and coffee. Reddish brown and clear. Tastes of crystalized brown sugar and maple syrup, some smokey cardboard too. Medium thickness, a bit sticky. Good doppel, especially considering the scope of its production.

...from the bottle pours a dark brown, with a light tan head. Not bad, smooth, some roasted malt notes, with a smooth finish.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours brown with about a finger of dark tan head. Aroma of caramel and coffee. Taste is lightly sweet. Caramel, fermented fruit and coffee. Medium bodied with a creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, very good. I’d really like to try one again sometime.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 RobertDale (969) - Lansing, Kansas, USA - MAY 9, 2012
Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a nice off-white head. Aroma of malt, caramel, and brown sugar. Taste is sweet malt, caramel, and molasses. A bit too sweet, but still a decent dopplebock.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 monk191 (101) - California, USA - MAY 9, 2012
A tasty surprise. Much better then the basic La Rossa. Smells sweet, and has a very malty taste, but doesn't overdo it. Slight hop aftertaste. Good!

Bottle. Clear deep amber pour with a large frothy off-white head. Nose and taste are caramel, biscuit, a touch of sweetness, and a bit of earthiness. Pretty solid.
1.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20 ElDesmadre (472) - Mikołów, POLAND - APR 22, 2012
330ml bottle. Brown with a frothy head. Aroma is toasted malt, caramel, licorice and some hops. Quite a full body with lots of licorice in the aftertaste and a strong dark malt presence. This does not taste like a macrolager and despite its low level of complexity would be really good, were it not for the very strong alcohol presence that makes this beer taste very astringent. It’s just not complex enough to justify so much alcohol.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Elwood (1965) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - APR 18, 2012
Serving: 12 oz. bottle from Wegmans Leesburg. It pours a clear dark red color with a large, active head of light tan foam. The nose has notes of dough, biscuit, and very light dried fruit. The flavor is a bit bready and sweet with a touch of metallic, molasses, and dried fig. Medium bodied with a medium, sweet finish. Certainly better than I was expecting.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Fech (131) - Edison, New Jersey, USA - APR 10, 2012
I very much liked this one...got a kick but still easy to knock back a 6pk of these and still want another. Ruby red semi-malty and bubbly.
