3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 theisti (2441) - Leawood, USA - AUG 23, 2011
Shaker pint cask at the Birreria brewpub in New York City. Pour is a cloudy yellow orange pour, with a smallish white head. Aroma is pink peppercorns along with grassy coriander, and some wheat. Taste is bright almost sweet peppercorn, along with the grass and a good balst of the coriander. Palate is cask unfiltered, low carbonation and a lingerging weird yeastiness. Interesting beer, though not entirely my thing.

Very easy to drink and nice for a hot day.Not to much to say about this beer was boring I wanted more out of it.I think just to soft for my palate.Side note Birreria was great.Food, beer, service, location and view all great.

On cask at the Birreria at Eataly. Pours a hazy gold with a thin white head. Toast, soft marzipan, pepper, nice yeast notes. Very light peppercorn, subtle and not overpowering. Wheat, soft peppercorn. Light wit finish, soft musk. Nice and easy.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ben4321 (2220) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - SEP 5, 2011
Location: Cask at The Birreria at Eataly, 9/4/11
Aroma: The nose has components of pepper, orange, wheat, spice, and just a hint of honey
Appearance: It pours a golden-orange color with a lasting white head atop it
Flavor: Tastes wheaty, with a touch of pepper/spice, its mildly sweet, with a touch of citrus
Palate: The body is light, with a soft carbonation, and a finish that lingers on the mouth for a while
Overall Impression:
This was some solid stuff. I thought the peppercorns were a very interesting addition to a Wit that come out more in the nose then in the flavor. It did make the beer a little more interesting then a typical Belgian White. I generally enjoy cask offerings, but have mixed feelings about how the cask treatment worked here. Part of me thinks it helped the beer, and part of me thinks it hurt the beer. I’d like to see a draft version for comparison sake (but I don’t think I’d pay another $10 bucks to try the draft version!)
