(Ale For Obsessed)
This top fermented beer is a free interpretation of a Pale Ale. It is deep copper in color, generously hopped (it contains more than ten different types of hops including the American Chinook, Cascade and Simcoe delivering its citrusy and exotic aromas) with a lightly toasted caramel flavor that perfectly balances its bitter finish.
A beer I have always craved. To all those obsessed by Ales like me.

A.F.O. is my second creation. It was launched on the market together with VIA EMILIA at the end of March 2007. The story behind this beer dates back to January 2006 when, for the first time, I came across the new and irresistible character of American hops. Despite the initial excitement, I soon realized that my dream pale ale aimed to express something different. Thus, I challenged myself to create a complex bouquet that would end up being unusual and enticing. The investigation in the field of hop aromas (which may never end) lead me to England and Germany. I also experimented with hop varieties from New Zealand. Despite this, A.F.O.’s unmistakable character will never change.

Arty bottle from Vinmonopolet. Pours dark amber/golden with a big frothy off-white head. Aroma of pine, apricot and malts. Taste reminds me of old times malt sweets, but it is mixed with some lovely hops and a perfect carbonation Taste ends drying up a bit, making me take another lovely sip of this nice elixir. Pours hazy golden with a tanned head. Inviting hoppy aroma with herbal tones. Heavy initial resin-like bitterness in the mouth, but the finish is surprisingly short. Dry texture. I miss the sweetness to balance the bitterness. Bottle@Cardinal 20.1.2010.

Bottle, 33cl, 5.2%. It’s a slighlty cloudy dark orange-golden beer with a fingerthick beige head. leaving lacings. Piney, resiny nose with peaches and malts. The hops do most of the job. That goes for the flavor too, which has a lovely bitterness on a sweet, malty base. Peach, pine and resin, with some citrus peel too. Full-bodied, nicely carbonated, and with a lingering bitterness in the end. A really fine APA. 100127

UPDATED: OCT 24, 2015 330 ml bottle. Hazy copper red body with a big, creamy beige head. Aroma of bitter grapefruit, peaches and a hint of caramel. Flavor is citric fruity, very tasty malt and caramel, a fine sharp but balanced bitterness. A very tasty and refreshing beer with a perfect balance between sweet and bitter. God body for only 5,4 % ABV and a long and pleasant bitter finish. This beer stand out more like an IPA for me, with a much more sophisticate malt body than many other “big” IPA’s. Some of them have a fine hop aroma and flavor, but the body is just based on a plain caramel malt body. This one got it all.

33 cl "cool" bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.4%. Also available at Vinmonopolet. Deep orange to brown colour, big off-white head. Some floaties from the sediment in the bottle. Lovely aroma of fruity American hops, notes of citrus. The flavour is distinctly hoppy with grapefruity notes, resin the finish. Some caramel malts too, fairly well balanced. Bitter aftertaste.

Bottle from Bir & Fud. Hazy, glowing copper. Potent citrussy hoppiness. Great.

(Bottled) Hazy orange with a smallish, firm and lightly lacy head. Woody-aromatic-hoppy nose with caramel and berries, but very little fruit. Flavor is quite dry and bitter, slightly ashy, woody-hoppy, herby, very lightly fruity. Medium body, soft carbonation. I think 9 hops are overkill, and make this feel "mushy" with very few flavors to get hold of. An ok, dry brew with lots of hops - but not a masterpiece by any standard.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2010 7th August 2008. Well balanced - malty and a little hoppy. Finishes with fruity dryness. Unremarkable but good. 3 2nd December 2008. Cloudy amber beer - mild head. Quite a malty start followed by pleasing deep rich grapefruity hops. A little bitterness in the finish but that’s a good thing.
