(Ale For Obsessed)
This top fermented beer is a free interpretation of a Pale Ale. It is deep copper in color, generously hopped (it contains more than ten different types of hops including the American Chinook, Cascade and Simcoe delivering its citrusy and exotic aromas) with a lightly toasted caramel flavor that perfectly balances its bitter finish.
A beer I have always craved. To all those obsessed by Ales like me.

A.F.O. is my second creation. It was launched on the market together with VIA EMILIA at the end of March 2007. The story behind this beer dates back to January 2006 when, for the first time, I came across the new and irresistible character of American hops. Despite the initial excitement, I soon realized that my dream pale ale aimed to express something different. Thus, I challenged myself to create a complex bouquet that would end up being unusual and enticing. The investigation in the field of hop aromas (which may never end) lead me to England and Germany. I also experimented with hop varieties from New Zealand. Despite this, A.F.O.’s unmistakable character will never change.

A dark golden pale ale with a thin off white head. Aroma of caramel, strawberries and light german hops. In mouth, a grassy biscuitty malt, with herbal hops, very nice and quaffable, some peppery notes in finale. Mondiale 2009, June 5 2009.

Mondiale 2009. Very good bitterness from this pale, Light body. As good as a good American pale with orange and malt, with above average IBU.

Bottle @ Mondial 2009. Aroma has plenty of orange hops, lots of good malt too, cloudy orange/brown, small custard head. Taste of orange and malt combine to give a nice overall finish. Light bodied, fine bitterness. Quite good.

My Bottom Line:
Spicy, herbal hop resins provide satisfying aroma, flavor and bitterness for this mildly malted and quenching American-style Pale Ale.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the cloudy amber.
-The finishing hop bitterness is also quite earthy.
-Effervescence is comfortable, yet seems to take more room in the mouthfeel than the body of the beer itself.
-Malts could offer more flavor for this beer to stand out.
-I’ve really liked everything I’ve had from Ducato so far!

From the bottle at the Mondial de la Bière.

Sampled from 500ml bottle during Akevitt’s Scandinavian Beer Night and shared by JK. Pours a semi-clear dark copper amber colored brew with a thin off-white head that slowly dissipates. Aroma of multi-grain malt, a hint of wheat, some flowery hops, citrus zest and a touch of pine. Taste is medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of multi-grain malt, citrus and floral hops, some mild pine and farm hay. Finish is slightly metallic with a mild floral hop aftertaste.

Sampled at Il Birratrovo, a great beer shop in Como. Hazy amber with a beautiful off white head. Fantastic hop profile. Subtle and deeply pleasant. Excellent. I reveled in every sip.
