Bottle, 75cl. A dense, small, off-white head settles on top of an unclear, amber body with floaties. Herbal aroma with thyme, gale and some lemony brett-ish notes. Caramel hints. The flavor has some caramel, but itís mostly herbal and lightly sourish. Some bitterness chimes in towards the end. A bit heavy on carbonation I think, full body. An interesting beer, but it lacks a bit on drinkability. 111105

Bottle @ YNWA, Kolding.
Light muddy amber with a small, staying, frothy, off-white head. Stunning aroma. Lots of brett, honey, oak, grapes, red apples. Manages to be sour, zesty, sweet and fresh at the same time as being very complex. High carbonation, good dry mouthfeel. Flavour is complex, but doesnít come close to the aroma. Bretty and dry, apples, zestiness, malty sweetness (perhaps a bit too much?), oaky, tart, oranges, coriander. Complex and exceptionally drinkable.

A Mes rate. Bottle thanks to Mario.
This is a special edition bottle conditioned with brett and something else. God knows what as I donít speak or read Italian, although I wish I could. My god, this is an amazing beer. As soon as it was poured, although I was at least four feet away, I could smell there was a special one on the way. It instantly reminded me of Pope style Thomas Hardys, and we all know thatís not a bad thing. This is an amazingly sniffable beer. An abundance of sour barrelly madness and fruit punch. Cheese and funk a plenty too along with caramel, vanilla, leather and some delightful herbal stuff, almost rosemary. Wow. The flavour is so good Iím almost struggling to get my words out. The initial hit is sourness and tannins but there is an effortless underlying complexity. The wood is perfect, there is something like cured meat in there too. Just a hint of sugar and alcohol, along with more of everything that was so great about the aroma. Utterly outstanding fruit and herbs in the finish leading to a lasting tarty and bretty aftertaste. Itís one of those beers that makes you pause between each sip, partly because you know the chances of you ever getting it again are very slim and partly because you want to experience the whole ride of flavour progression until you embark upon a fresh journey. Iíd be interested to know how old this was before the 2008 bottling. It has the character of something much older but there is clearly plenty of life left in it. Italy is clearly where itís at right now and Del Ducato are one of the best examples as to why. Absolutely excellent beer.
