3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle sample. It pours an almost flat dark ruby/brownish colour with no head to speak of. Aroma is alcohol, red fruits, charcoal, ashes and raisins. Taste is similarly sweet/ashy with dark fruits and raisins. Body is too thin for such ABV and depth of flavours is not as nearly as deep anough. Pricey.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
2009 vintage thanks to bu11zeye. Orange-red pour with a white head. The aroma is full of toffee, caramel and alcohol. The flavor is more complex. I get some strong Scotch notes, with a ton of peat and oak. There is also a lot of caramel, toffee and dark cherries. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

2.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Flat, muddy brownish pour. No head. No lacing. Malty aroma. Cinnamon, vanilla, and raisins. Very malty taste. Vanilla and caramel. Almost a butterscotch. Not bad. Too flat.

4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
330 ml bottle - cellar temperature - pours clear dark amber with no head what-so-ever and no carbonation either. But the aroma is simply heavenly: vinous all the way; the earthiness of a noble madeira wine (yet, the beer is not aged or oxydised at all!) with a considerable apple undertone. In a blind tasting, people would argue over this to be a wine or a vin de paille or vin jaune (Jura special type of wine)? Salty start over mellow sweet finish, sour aftertaste, than tad of alcohol warmth... Special it is as this is not your average beer but so much more. Del Ducato = finesse!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Cloudy light brown with no head. Sweet cereal grain aroma. Apple, cereal grain, vanilla, brandy, and a musty earthy sugary finish. Grainy sticky palate. Disappointing for the price point.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
11.2oz bottle thanks to bu11zeye) clear, dark copper, some sheeting on the glass. Nose of spirits, vanilla, barrel, not very complex. Taste of alcohol, wood, spirits, vanilla extract, not my favorite. Pretty poor for a high ABV beer.

Above "L’Ultima Luna" and after "RISERVA": "E. Dupont Calvados barrel 2009". I assume E. is for Etienne. They (the Duponts, not the Ducatos) make a calvados with an apple grown in the bottle (see www.calvados-dupont.com/en/pomme-captive.htm if you don’t believe me). How about a beer with "captive" hops?
