COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Barley Wine aged 18 months in French oak wine barrels previously used for Amarone della Valpolicella wine.

Thanks to james. Pours a clear brown with no head. Nose is complex. Flavor is even moreso. Molasses, coffee, soy sauce galore. Flat. Chewy. Syrupy thick. Hides the abv like a champ. Very good stuff. Why so expensive?

11.2oz cool bottle. This is a wild beer. Very port like. Strong fruity aromatics with some deep brown sugar and a meaty caramel malt presence. Alcohol is present but not dominating. Like the Baladin Barley Wine this is utterly flat, I think on purpose. Flavor wise Brown sugar and caramel malts war with a light fruity sourness. Huge chewy body and lingering notes of sour cherry and brown sugar. A lovely beer.

33cl bottle thanks to chswimmer on BA on his birthday. Man that guy is drunk right now. Clear dark brown in color with no real head, just a few bubbles. Big red wine and oakiness on the aroma, with caramel malt and spices. Smells a little tart, or even tannic. Flavor is not oo tart at all really, just mildly sweet. Toffee malt notes, big red wine, and lots of great oakiness with mild vanilla. Really tasty, like Cuvee de Tomme but less tart really. Somewhat tannic on the mouthfeel with medium-full body, low carbonation, and some warmth from alcohol but not much booziness. A really good and interesting beer.

Location: Bottle graciously shared with me at La Trappe Cafe & Trappist Lounge, 5/12/11

Aroma: The nose has a lot going on including oak/wood, vanilla, booze, malts, and caramel
Appearance: The pour is a dark reddish-brown color with a small bubbly beige head
Flavor: The taste has a good sweetness, rich and malty with some funk and acidic flavors as well
Palate: Really smooth, slight burn, low carbonation, big body, and way too drinkable for a 13% beer
Overall Impression: This was one was really interesting, thanks a bunch for sharing this awesome beer! A very well-made Barley Wine with an interesting complexity that is somewhat boozy but still dangerously drinkable considering the ABV. Anyway, I enjoyed sampling this one.

Bottled. An unclear red-brown beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of wood, brettanomyces, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet and a bit acidic with notes of caramel, alcohol, wood, brettanomyces, and malt, leading to a dry and slightly tart finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

@ ACBF 2011. The aroma has some bourbon, raisin/dark fruits. Clear, dark red-amber coloured beer with no head. The taste is a bit sweet, bit bourbon/boozy, has dark fruity, raisin-like and caramel maltiness, some wine. Nice one.
