Heavily hopped, it has aromas of grapefruit, white grape and tropical fruit. Warm and fairly bodied, bitter but balanced, complex and persistent, its palate shows its character. It finishes with balsamic and resinous notes.

After watching the trailer of the movie “Machete” 4 years before its showing, I was sold on creating a beer to honor him. Not any beer, only one could bear the weight of such a name: a Double IPA. I have always been fascinated by well brewed Double (or Imperial) IPAs. These are far from easy beers to brew. Limiting the caramel amount, achieving a good dryness, making sure that the higher alcohols are not overpowering are some of the key elements to avoid an undrinkable “sludge”. Above all, hop has to emerge over everything else, powerful and imperious.

This is an extreme beer, either loved or hated. It has no middle ways, middle ways are not for Machete. Machete doesn’t come to compromises. “Machete don’t text”.

[10/18/13] Draught at Eurhop Beer Festival 2013 in Rome. Deep golden-amber. Aroma of grainy malt and musty “green” hops. Flavor has some sweet caramelly malt and pungent leafy and piney hops with moderate bitterness. Medium-bodied.

750 ml bottle from Birsciòp, Lecce. Served into a pint glass. Pours a moderately hazy sunrise orange, with a persistent off-white head that leaves excellent lacing. Powerful hoppy aroma typical in every DIPA, a bouqet of tropical fruits, freshly cut grass, pine needles, some bubblegum notes and a slight hint of caramel malts. Good amount of bitterness in the mouth, lovely creamy texture, and being quite dry I consider it extremely drinkable. Medium body, correct carbonation, no trace of the achool at all, but I wasn’t expecting it being only 7.8% for a DIPA. Quite impressed!

Countbeer (4427) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - OCT 13, 2013
Bottle: Served in a Van Moll Tumbler: Medium sized white foamy head on top of a hazy yellow colored beer. Aromas of hop fruits, peach, apricot, hay, plastic, yeast and herbal hay. Flavours of hop fruits, peach, apricit, grapes, mango, some grapefruit, bitters, herbs, light yeasty, corn, light spicy, floral... Pretty good for a DIPA. Aftertaste is bitter, hops, herbs, some bitter fruits and plant bitters and some hay. Low to medium carbo, creamy lightly blown mouthfeel, medium to fuller bodied and a creamy texture.

33cl bottle. Hazy, orange/yellow with big head. Nose : tart, pine, grapefruit peel, some little mint, pineapple. Sip : medium body with low carbonation. Sweet and spicy from the start. Fruits and tart notes are dominating. it gets more earthy and spiced. The aftertaste is strong bitter pine and citrus seeds. Earthy herbal aftertaste on my tongue. The beer is quite complex and not that easy to drink.

Bottle. Orange, slight brown. Malty bready nose, with a bit of pine. Full bodied. Malts, yeasty remnants. Darker bready, almost rye- like. Good body, balanced bittered. The flavours are a bit dull though. I liked the normal IPA a lot better.

33 cl bottle @ RIP camp, BBE 03/2014
Aroma is musty with gooseberry bush, some strawberries and hints of hay. Flavour is hoppy with some fruity tones, strawberries and hints of gooseberry bush. Palate is a bit too high on CO2. Too much strawberries and gooseberry bush here.

330ml bottle from Berlin Bier Shop @ RIP Camp

BBE 03/2014 - Pours golden orange with a large foamy head. Aroma of berries, caramely malts, old hops and soapy notes. Taste is sweet, sticky and messy with notes of berries, caramel, toffee and strawberry. Finish is sweet, malty and caramely. A bit messy and unbalanced, the berry notes don’t quite fit in here.
