COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Heavily hopped, it has aromas of grapefruit, white grape and tropical fruit. Warm and fairly bodied, bitter but balanced, complex and persistent, its palate shows its character. It finishes with balsamic and resinous notes.

After watching the trailer of the movie “Machete” 4 years before its showing, I was sold on creating a beer to honor him. Not any beer, only one could bear the weight of such a name: a Double IPA. I have always been fascinated by well brewed Double (or Imperial) IPAs. These are far from easy beers to brew. Limiting the caramel amount, achieving a good dryness, making sure that the higher alcohols are not overpowering are some of the key elements to avoid an undrinkable “sludge”. Above all, hop has to emerge over everything else, powerful and imperious.

This is an extreme beer, either loved or hated. It has no middle ways, middle ways are not for Machete. Machete doesn’t come to compromises. “Machete don’t text”.

Slightly hazy amber color, good cloudy off-white head, lace. Piney, a bit yeasty aroma. Medium-bodied. Sweetish front, grapefruity, resiny, fruity lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. Nice "easy to sip" double IPA.

Keg at Bishops Arms Gamla Stan, Stockholm. Hazy amber, creamy head. Rich aroma of fresh hops - bergamott, hay and lychee. Mid dry with near full body and well roundef mouthfeel. Intensely hoppy - tea, citrus and hay. Long but harmonious bitter finish. An unusually well drinkable DIPA, yet not compromising the flavour intensity.

On tap at BeerTemple. Hazy gold pour with lacy white head. Aroma is hoppy, fruity, peachy, light vegetal notes. Taste is fruity, a bit piney, grassy hops, honey malt, a bit dusty. Palate is full bodied, surprisingly boozy with med carbonation. Decent.

33cl bottle @ home. Hazy copper color, rocky off-white head. Aroma citrus, biscuit, strong hoppy, moderated grapefruit, herbs. Taste medium sweetness, heavy bitterness, lightly sour. Full body, sticky texture, average carbonation, bittersweet finish where hoppy bitterness stays quite long, refreshing. Not a usual double IPA, interesting, full with hops.

(Draught at Beer Temple, Amsterdam, 26 Feb 2014) Amber colour with frothy, white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of orange, apricots and crisp-bread. Malty, fruity taste with orange peel, apricots, caramel, marmalade and a generous citric bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with balanced sweetness. Tasty and well made double IPA. Very nice.

Very interesting beer. Strong hoppy aroma and aftertaste. Not so bitter at the beginning but it gets dry bitter at the end. Very nice DIPA, but on the light-tasty side.

Foamy big head, hazy amber. Lot of lacing. Smells of hops: herbal and floral. Syrupy. Bitter as I like them. Balanced. Good double IPA.

Draft at beer temple. Pours clear orange golden with an off white head. Aroma of citrus, cheesy hops and sponge. Flavour is light sweet and over moderate bitter. Vegetal in the palate. Medium bodied with light carbonation.
