Top fermented beer, a mix between Oatmeal Stouts and English Porters. Its character is defined by the 11 different types of malt aromas being used. Dark ebony, the nose is marked by roasted aromas recalling barley coffee, cacao beans and ash with a scent of caramel. It has a malty palate with creamy oats and hints of smoked flavor.

Although its recipe has dramatically changed with time, Sally Brown is the evolution of a type of Oatmeal Stout I used to homebrew. If A.F.O. is fully characterized by its hops, Sally Brown stands out for the use of 11 different types of malt including un-malted cereals such as oat flakes and roasted barley. Two years of investigation in the fascinating world of roasting resulted in the creation of a smooth, complex and balanced, drinkable beer. Its name comes from a Laurel Aitken’s song, one of Jamaica’s Ska forefathers, which was later covered by Bad Manners. In December of 2007, Bad Manner played a show in a venue close to Parma. I showed up during sound check to gift them a case of Sally Brown. They liked it so much they were drinking it on stage and while playing the song “Sally Brown” the lead singer said: “Sally Brown beer, the best!” .Those words filled me with incredible pride and satisfaction. That night was truly memorable.

Color ebano con schiuma beige che svanisce frettolosamente. Al naso leggero tostato e avena. In bocca non mi fa impazzire, anzi mi sembra un pò a metà tra due stili e non mi convince molto.

bottle thanks to bu11zeye. poured dark brown/ruby with a beige head. aroma was dark roast, chocolate, and coffee. flavor was much the same plus some dark fruity notes coming out and had a light body.

Bottle: Medium to bigger creamy light tan light brown head on top of a light murky dark ruby brownish black colored beer. Smell toasted malts, light liquorice and light coffee infused with some sweet herbs and something watery light hoppy chocolate. Taste is a bit sparkling but disappears directly into a dusty background. Some light, sometimes watery, hints of coffee, toasted malts and barleys, herbs and spices and something light grainy hoppy. Hint of something light light sour, but just a slight hint in the far outskirts of this beer. Nice bitter light malty cacoa/coffee ish herby aftertaste. Low to medium carbo, watery mouthfeel, medium body and a watery texture. Not bad, but lacks the body a bit, also a bit watery but with a nice bitterness and light spicy… Love their bottles. Perfect for putting away a good beer to age for years. Tasted together with the Sally Brown Caffe Baracco

Deep brown one with a creamy tan head. Moderated aroma of chocolate, caramel and toffee, light roasted character. Easy flavor profile, light ash, light chocolate, light caramel, light everything.

Bottle from Da Aldo. Poured deep ruby, almost black with a tan, lacing head. Molasses, brown sugar, vanilla in the nose. Licorice, roasted malts, hops in the aroma. Fairly light body with medium carbonation. Licorice, molasses in the aftertaste. Okay.

How can I right an Italian beer so high? It doesn’t even have any garlic in it. The aroma is very earthy with a good amount of coffee and chocolate. It looks great, deep brown with a creamy tan head. The flavor is sweet with the chocolate, some vanilla and the coffee. Medium bodied for a stout with a creamy lasting finish.

(33cl bottle best by 11-30-10 thanks to bu11zeye) clear dark brown with lasting creamy dark tan head. Nose of smoke, olive, coffee, and nutty sweet. Taste is creamy, nutty, light coffee, nice balance and very well carbonated. Smoky palate linger. Love what the Italians are doing with beers these days.

Pours black. Lil’ creamy creme head, but excellent retention. Aroma is a bit all over the place : licorice, mushrooms, vegetables, spices and alcohol (on a 5.2% -- go figure). .... Way over the place, actually. Taste is much more what’s expected from a stout (or, at least, in that range) : chocolate, roasted malts, with a hint of herbal hops and vanily. Expected a somewhat heavier bodied drink, to be honest, but that’s the only real flaw of this one. ... But... What’s that aroma?

Bottle. Creamy off-white good mostly lasting head. Brown colour. Heavy malty and light hoppy aroma. Roast and mild coffee notes. Moderate bitter flavor. Average moderate bitter finish. Oily palate.
