375 ml bottle (9% abv). Batch L32513. BBE 15.12.2018.
Pours dark brown-red color with a small head. Very strong tar and peaty notes on the aroma, licorice, earth and malts. Flavor is chocolaty, malty, the chili raises its head quite fast, licorice and some faint whisky. Dry roasty palate, I like the chili here.

Aroma has strong peaty tones, islay whiskey and mild licorice tones. Flavour has licorice, peaty tones, islay and rubbery tones. Finishes with mild cardboardy tones. The chili starts to show up with mild warming tones at the end of the glass.

Batch L35213, 9% ABV - Pours pitch black with a tiny head. Aroma of whisky, peat, wood, cocoa, hints of vanilla and roasty malts. Taste is stingy, peaty and woody with some chili, vanilla, coffee, roastiness and sweet syrupy notes. Finish is spicy, roasty and earthy with hints of chili, vanilla, whisky, oak and wood. Interesting.

The color is almost black, no carbonation, no head. Huge whiskey aroma, peaty, and dark chocolate truffle. Lean body, the residual sweetness is very moderate; it has a very good chocolate flavor, dry and dark, quite roasty, distinctive cocoa nibs, peaty whiskey; I also get some chili pepper hotness; the final is a bit weak because of the relative dryness; it has a pleasant alcohol kick.
Excellent, although I usually like sweeter Stouts; this seems at its peak.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2016 Wow - incredible sweet peat aroma with some smoke from whiskey barrels, what you can enjoy as there is no 40%+ of alcohol :-) Surprisingly the taste is not sweet, but contains a lot of bitter alcohol notes from whiskey. Mazut (black oil), peat, smoke in the aftertaste. Excellent beer for Isle whiskey lovers! Even despite the fact that I am not :-)

375mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma is super complex, with smoky whiskey barrels (smells like Islay) dominating here. Flavour is along the same lines, with loads of smoked whiskey notes, and a touch of cocoa. Medium palate, with intense whiskey notes. I really enjoy this Islay (or Islay-like) barrel aging. Excellent.

Small bottle at home. Pours pitch black with a lack of head. The aroma is dark sweet chocolate, poster paint, peat whiskey and cerry wood. Watery body, high on hot spices - stout and hot spices don’t mix well... especially when the balance and the initial flavour profile is destryed, what happened here exactly.

Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, peat, chocolate, caramel, chili and smoke. Taste is medium to heavy sweet and light to medium bitter with a long chocolate, chili, smoke, oak and hint of vanilla in the finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Pours pitch black and completely opaque without even the slightest trace of lighter color when held to a light source. Two finger pillowy, dark mocha head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Very good retention, taking a while to settle and leaving large streaks and chunks of soapy lacing behind. Slightly smokey, peaty aroma with a prominent barrel presence that’s nicely integrated into the roasted malt and spicy pepper character of the base beer. Lots of barrel with a strong toasted oak presence along with peated whiskey, coconut and vanilla bean. Only 33% is barrel aged so the nose is thankfully not overpowered by boozy bourbon. There is still a heavy dose of deeply roasted malt and spicy chili pepper. Hints of burnt toast, oatmeal, bitter dark chocolate and coffee bean along with vegetal, spicy peppers and silky, sweeter malt notes. Medium body with tight carbonation and a subtle barrel character that’s integrated into the intensely roasted dark malt flavors of the base beer. As it warms, the barrel character stands out a bit more but it’s mostly dry, charred oak and and smokey peat flavor. The bourbon presence is muted and the dryness of the oak and peat combine with the deep roast to produce an acrid, overly dry flavor profile. The coconut, bourbon and silky vanilla bean barrel notes found in the nose are practically invisible. Some decent whiskey flavor starts to come forward after a while but the peat, oak and heavy malt bill dominate. Lots of burnt malt along with spent coffee beans, oatmeal, charred toast, bittersweet dark chocolate and charcoal. Overall, this is an interesting beer but the subtle barrel presence, overwhelming dryness and overpowering roasted malt make it one dimensional and slightly harsh/tough to drink. Not bad but it could have used more whiskey flavor and sweetness to balance things out.
