[9/27/14] Bottle sample at Borefts Beer Festival 2014 in Bodegraven. Black with a bit of brown foam. Aroma of roast, coffee, chili, some chocolate and a quite a bit of alcohol. Bittersweet flavor with dark chocolate and a somewhat spicy chili finish, drier and a bit burnt. Full-bodied.

Bottle at BBF 6, 27/09/14.
Light black with a moderate tan covering and edgework.
Nose is roasted malt, spice, dark chocolate, green pepper, toffee.
Taste comprises peated malt, chocolate, TCP, toffee, hint of cardboard.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, lightly warming alcohol in the close.
So so, just not enough depth to justify the ABV for me.

Intensiv malziger Geruch mit deutlichen Whisky Noten. Torf und Kaffee im Antrunk, weich, sehr malzig. Vollmundig malzig auch im Mittelteil, alkoholisch brennender Hintergrund. Erneut torfig, holzige Noten. Vanille im Nachgeschmack. 13/11/8/9/10/11

Pours pitch black with almost no head. Aroma: a blast of cocoa, followed by liquorish aromas, coffee, rosins, vanilla. Taste: you can clearly taste that this beer has been aged in whisky barrels! A dominating malt character, lots of cocoa,vanilla and some chilli. Palate: very warming, with Great chilli pepper finish, which is clear but not too overhelming.Incredible beer. I am really pissed off I didn’t buy another bottle for ageing. However, if you don’t like whisky don’t drink it.

Bottle - Oaky and some light Whisky notes, peat with some dark fruit. Jet black with a rich brown head. Tons of peat and oak notes, chocolate and some bitterness in finish.

Bottle. Pours black with brown head. Nose/taste of scotch whiskey, peat, cigar ash, oak, smoked chocolate, roast chocolate and vanilla. Medium body.

Bottle to glass. Pours a deep brown with reddish hues and thin light brown head. Aroma is mild roasted malts, peat, smoke. Flavor is quite smoky, peaty. Medium body with an intense lingering peatiness. Not my thing.

Draft. Pours near black with a beige head. Scotchy scotch scotch with lighter roasted malts, some wood, earthy notes and toasted malts, but really dominated by the scotch. Not bad.

sepia, cream collar with oily cap. Soft whiskey, light peat and wood, plum with burnt leaves nose. Boozy chocolate liquor front palate, tons of plum and woody alcohol before toasty mid, charred wood and light cocoa with faint cardboard notes through dusty end. Masterfully balanced until the finish, expressive barrel and balanced sweetness.

Bottle. Deep, dark and viscous as you’d expect. The aroma and then the flavor is strong and rich, also as expected. But this beer is dominated by a wet tobacco and leather aspect that infiltrates from the get-go, then really takes over in the finish. As I continue to drink, the initial sense of tobacco and leather clearly identifies itself as the Scotch, another beverage I can appreciate the artistry of but not really enjoy that much.
