Top fermented beer which is subjected to a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is deep dark ebony in color with a cappuccino head. The nose has aromas of chocolate, licorice, coffee grounds and tobacco with alcohol nuances. Its full bodied, long lasting, smooth and dry mouth is followed by a surprisingly hot finish that breaks its initial fullness and makes you crave more!

It is suitable for aging.

Dedicating one of our beers to Giuseppe Verdi was a must since our microbrewery is located in Roncole Verdi, the composer’s birth place. When I returned from my first visit to New York City I decided to create a beer that would be superior in elegance, balance and drinkability to all those stout varieties I had overseas. Although the initial recipe has changed, the very first batch matched my vision. Its uniqueness lays in the use of chili pepper which combines very well with the beer’s chocolate aroma. The hot finish also lightens its full bodied mouth by awakening the palate.

Verdi Imperial Stout is the first Italian craft beer to have ever been crowned with a gold medal in its category at an International beer contest. In 2008 it ranked first at The European Beer Star in the Imperial Stout category.

Colore nero impenetrabile, schiuma marrone non eccessiva, bassa carbonazione. Odore tostato, cioccolato fondente, liquirizia, leggero speziato. Sapore forte, tostato, pungente, piccante, caffè, oleosa in bocca, molto corposa, leggera astringenza nel finale.

330 ml bottle from La Bottega della Birra, Bologna.
Black body, with a small, dense, creamy, dark beige head.
Aroma of coffee, nuts, chocolate, dark fruits, some spices.
Tastes of coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, a bit hot chili, some liquorice.
Medium, oily mouthfeel, with a soft carbonation.
Finishes roasty, hot, a bit dry, with coffee, chili, dark chocolate.

Tasty. The nose is a bit underwhelming, but the taste is very nice, the chili works really well and leads to a quite hot finish. Not as massive as other Imperial Stouts, but very well balanced.

Top beer!

On tap at the birch. Pours dark with a small head. Peppers are evident in the nose. Taste begins chocolate upfront then moves quickly to peppers and beat. Spice lingers in the mouth. Medium to full bodhi.

Draft. Like a blackberry smoked over an open fire. Sweetness is just a bit bigger than smokiness, which works perfectly. Gentle layer of pepper heat.

Tap at Tallinn Craft Beer Weekend 2015. Originally rated 28032015. Colour is black with slightly brownish head. Aromas and flavours: Coffee, chocolate, some mild chili and roasted malts.

Old rate from back in January. From a bottle. Black, small tan head. Slightly vegetal nose, with chocolate and chilis. Light body for an impy, but I love the way the chilis develop. They give it a low, slow burn, but nothing that really detracts. Like a chili chocolate bar in a glass. Still slightly vegetal, which is a bit of a turn-off. Definitely good, but not as good as the lighter brews I’ve had from them.

Tap@ TCBW2015. Pitch black color. Medium size, brown head, stays. Deep roast, sweet, chocolate, licorice, faint coffee in aroma. Sweetish, light roast, paprika, chilly peppers in taste. Love how the roast and chilly burn mix. At first it feels thin and watery, but when the chilly kicks in and completes the roast its WOW! Very well done brew!

A nice and pretty smooth beer. Roast, chocolate, licorice, booze. The chili heats builds up in the mouth and somehow works pretty well. Strong stuff.
