3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a black opaque beer with a thick, beige head on top. Aroma is full of chocolate and malts. Peppers are not detected at all. Aroma could be more complex, but it smells good. Flavor is medium sweet with touches of coffee and chocolate. Thin, oily mouthfeel and medium carbo. Average imperial stout..

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Black as black can be with a creamy, lasting, lacy, thick brown head. Smells of deep chocolate that dominates with a roast, malt base and caramel. Full creamy oily velvet soft body with soft carbonation. Tastes of dark chocolate, roast, ash and barley with a finish that is dry and a pronounced chilli finish that lingers for a while. The spiciness brings you back to quench your thirst. A nice smokey character full of malt flavour. Sweet with a salty roast hot finish. Delicious, well balanced and good moreishness.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From a 330ml bottle on 1/9/2013. Pours jet black with a smallish tan head. The aroma is pleasant, featuring lots of chocolate and some caramel malt. The falvour features lots of dark chocolate with some nutty and roasty malt at the back. The hot pepper is really pronounced, hitting you immediately and lingering long after the swallow. Has a fullish body and perhaps a little more carbonation that a typical impy. This is nicely put together and the pepper angle makes it unusual, but the pepper is just a little too much for me, as it made me feel like having a glass of water afterwards. That said, I can see why others would rate this quite highly.

Bottle from GBBF 2013 drunk at home. Black beer thick tan head. Bit papery on the malts. But the dark malts are good, some good choc and coffee. It’s fine, some good choc.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours pitch black into the glass, with a fully diminished tan head that leaves no lacing. The nose has chocolate and vinous notes. Flavors are similar, lots of cherry here, with light roasts, dark chocolates, cacao, and finishing with sours and chocolate-cinnamon. The pepper heat shows up after the pull, and as the brew warms, providing a little capsaicin heat to the otherwise cherry-vinous palate. Very drinkable, and a unique take on the Impy Stout, this works well as an Italian offering to my very "American" palate. Appreciato!
