3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a black color with brown highlights and a thin light brown head. Aroma of chocolate and mild roasted malt. Flavor of chocolate and roasted malt with some dryness along for the ride. This is an interesting beer, but it doesn’t compare favorably to the bolder American imperial stouts.

2.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
On tap at 4:20 RBESG Rome day 2. Black colour, brown head. Aroma of chocolate, hard roasted malts, light spicy. Flavour is some chocolate and hard roasted malts at first, then extremely hot spicy and peppery, burning the throat. Pepperiness is almost gimmicky, it’s that hot. Undrinkable.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Poured a deep pitch-black color stout with a large foamy head with deep dirty brown color head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of deep roasted malt with coffee notes. Taste has also loads of character with great roasted notes and some deep coffee notes with some dry black chocolate notes also noticeable. Body is quite full with great smooth texture with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well done with load of character though still easily drinkable. Nice mix between a cappuccino and an imperial stout.

Cool looking shape to this 330 ml bottle; dense dark brown with trace tan head; creamy, milk chocolate with a mild lactic sourness throughout; peppery spice too; ashy finish with dried peppers; not exactly my thing

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Fantastic Imperial Stout from a land that focuses almost entirely on light-colored weak-bodied "beer". Perhaps I rate this so high b/c it is such a rarity in the Italian context. It pours dark, dark chocolate brown with a thin fizzy cappuccino head. Notes of malt and chocolate and alcohol in the nose. A solid mouthfeel, with a silky smoothness. The alcohol is masked more with the balanced maltiness. Great Imperial Stout! There is yet hope for stout-heads visiting Italy!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at Marea. This really changed the way I looked at Italian beers. I had no idea they could be this big, having mainly tried fizzy yellow italian brews. medium full in the mouthfeel, less acidic than other imperial stouts. Not packing much of a sting.. delicious espresso and malt. Finished on the long side - very nice!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
I hate style subdivision beyond a certain point. The whole Imperial thing derives from that Barclays / Courage UK beer, long gone, which shared little or nothing with this fine strong stout. Taste the politics. This beer is big, round, ballsy and, er, Italian, putting it way beyond its local context. That is what is important about it, not how it compares with beers designed for something different. Lovely shaped bottle too. Like that matters.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Smells of dark fruit, some spice, roasted malt. Tastes of roasted malt, spicy, bitter. Not much of a hot pepper bite. Good.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I had this on tap at Beachwood BBQ’s Italian Beer Festival. This black pour had nice roasty, chocolatey and peppery flavors.
