Top fermented beer which is subjected to a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is deep dark ebony in color with a cappuccino head. The nose has aromas of chocolate, licorice, coffee grounds and tobacco with alcohol nuances. Its full bodied, long lasting, smooth and dry mouth is followed by a surprisingly hot finish that breaks its initial fullness and makes you crave more!

It is suitable for aging.

Dedicating one of our beers to Giuseppe Verdi was a must since our microbrewery is located in Roncole Verdi, the composer’s birth place. When I returned from my first visit to New York City I decided to create a beer that would be superior in elegance, balance and drinkability to all those stout varieties I had overseas. Although the initial recipe has changed, the very first batch matched my vision. Its uniqueness lays in the use of chili pepper which combines very well with the beer’s chocolate aroma. The hot finish also lightens its full bodied mouth by awakening the palate.

Verdi Imperial Stout is the first Italian craft beer to have ever been crowned with a gold medal in its category at an International beer contest. In 2008 it ranked first at The European Beer Star in the Imperial Stout category.

Sampled from bottle at brewmakers dinner, Kick. Pitch black body with a disappearing tan head. Nice aroma of medium roasted dark malt, dark chocolate, coffee and notes of wood. Flavor is smooth, soft roasted dark malt, coffee, chocolate, mild wood and moderate but balanced fruity bitterness. Fine balanced body and nice aftertaste. A smooth and solid Imperial Stout without any sharp edges. Slightly warning but not really alcoholic.

Pours black, clear, with tiny light brown, unstable, foamy head. Visually low carbonation with small up rising bubbles. Aroma is rich, various, with notes of roasted grains, malts with coffee like character, with fruity esters like plums, cherries. Similar is flavor, with note of roasted grains, malts with coffee, cocoa like character, slightly bitter in the middle (dark chocolate) and with fruity esters like cherries. Malt sweetness is medium, hop bitterness also. Body is moderate, and that is what I missing. But texture is silky smooth, alcohol is gentle present, carbonation is low. Very, very drinkable!

Incredible light brown thick head, black color not super dark, you visually can see the peppers, the smell like any other stout, cocoa, coffee bean...the taste is surprising on the first sip, bitter chocolate, coffee notes, but as expected on the sip and on the plate you feel that burn from the peppers. The burn on a 1 to 10 is a 5, it does linger in the throat so if you don’t like spicy you wouldn’t be drinking it. I love this beer.

Bottle at SBWF. Black with a small tan head. Aroma of slightly roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Sweetish flavor that ends up slightly more dry with coffee, chocolate and liquorice. Medium bodied and soft carbonation.

Tap. Very smooth one. Haven’t those chilli after-taste due to eating spicy dish before. Very strong coffee and chocolate taste. Nice small head. Very good one and not so overwhelming because of relatively low abv.

A black beer, a head is fluffy, quite big and brown.Aroma has coffee, some salt liquirice, chocolate, sourness and fruitness. Good and balanced aroma. Taste has strong roastiness, coffee, salt and salt liquirice. Some and nice chilis in the end that’s sharpening the taste. Medium+ bodied, smooth carbonation. Good chili, tasteful.

Tap at Luppolo 12 in Rome. An overall impression of strong coffee and licorice, strong chocolate, subtle alcohol, even sour notes (especially in the taste), and a spicy chili warmth - nearing heat! - in the finish. The alcohol, as said, is very subtle, and seems to complement the spiciness. It’s a surpriser, for I did not expect any of the spiciness from the nose - same goes for the "arrogant" version I’d had before. It’s got a near full - yet at points weakish - body, nearing sticky on the palate, and modest carbonation. A very good, strong, ballsy beer, and somewhat better than the version I’d had before, but I cannot help but feel there’s something missing...
