COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Top fermented beer which is subjected to a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is deep dark ebony in color with a cappuccino head. The nose has aromas of chocolate, licorice, coffee grounds and tobacco with alcohol nuances. Its full bodied, long lasting, smooth and dry mouth is followed by a surprisingly hot finish that breaks its initial fullness and makes you crave more!

It is suitable for aging.

Dedicating one of our beers to Giuseppe Verdi was a must since our microbrewery is located in Roncole Verdi, the composer’s birth place. When I returned from my first visit to New York City I decided to create a beer that would be superior in elegance, balance and drinkability to all those stout varieties I had overseas. Although the initial recipe has changed, the very first batch matched my vision. Its uniqueness lays in the use of chili pepper which combines very well with the beer’s chocolate aroma. The hot finish also lightens its full bodied mouth by awakening the palate.

Verdi Imperial Stout is the first Italian craft beer to have ever been crowned with a gold medal in its category at an International beer contest. In 2008 it ranked first at The European Beer Star in the Imperial Stout category.

Not a well balanced beer, maybe the bottle I had needed to age. The alcohol over whelmed the flavour (which was interesting for a RIS). Also it was very carbonated for a stout, almost at a lager level. All of this leads me to believe that I got a bad bottle.

Bottle at home. Pours a pitch black colour with a huge, frothy, light brown head. Roasted aroma with espresso coffee, rye bread, leather and some smoke, spices and alcohol. Pleasant. Roasted is also the flavour and is slightly sweet with touch of rubber, licorice and chili that accelerates heavily towards the end! Has a slick and soft mouth feel, and a medium bitterness. What an interessant beer! Lots of chili in the taste, nicely sweet and with smoke in the background. Probably good with selected food.

Thick black body and stable brown head. Pure heavy chocolate,, bit of cookies and some spruce hops. Thick body, robust, rich and chocolaty. Bitter start, bready yeast and thick brown chocolate ending. Great imperial stout. (Fancy bottle brought from De Molen by Bertanne)

Spina @ birraexpo. Nera impenetrabile con schiuma che lascia un velo. Corpo medio, carbonazione un pelo troppo accennata, secca e gradevole.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Dima’s. Thanks Stas. Very dark brown with tan head. A little alcoholic and spur in the nose, some tomatoes, chocolate syrup and faint smokiness. Above the bitter taste - chili pepper hotness, the roast and again, faint smoke. Fulfilling, carbonated, very long chili-chipotle finish.

Aroma of pepper oil with some coffee. Stouty taste of coffee with some choco. Leaves a tickling burning feeling of hot pepper when it goes down the throat. Pepper aftertaste with just a hint of coffee. Medium body. Well balanced beer. Alcohol taste note after some time.

Elegant liten flaske fra polet, konsumert med venner med samme diagnose, april-14: regnet pisker mot ruta på Sigmunds hytte, og vi varmer oss på denne. Utseende er perfekt, og smaksfylden imponerer. A lingering afterburn antyder at de har slengt litt chili i kokekaret.

Shared bottle at local tasting. Black colour, tan head. Roasty aroma, notes of coffee and dark chocolate, hints of chili. Medium sweet and roasty flavour, notes of coffee, dark chocolate and chili, which leaves a distinct chili burn on the palate and throat in the aftertaste.
