Top fermented beer which is subjected to a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is deep dark ebony in color with a cappuccino head. The nose has aromas of chocolate, licorice, coffee grounds and tobacco with alcohol nuances. Its full bodied, long lasting, smooth and dry mouth is followed by a surprisingly hot finish that breaks its initial fullness and makes you crave more!

It is suitable for aging.

Dedicating one of our beers to Giuseppe Verdi was a must since our microbrewery is located in Roncole Verdi, the composer’s birth place. When I returned from my first visit to New York City I decided to create a beer that would be superior in elegance, balance and drinkability to all those stout varieties I had overseas. Although the initial recipe has changed, the very first batch matched my vision. Its uniqueness lays in the use of chili pepper which combines very well with the beer’s chocolate aroma. The hot finish also lightens its full bodied mouth by awakening the palate.

Verdi Imperial Stout is the first Italian craft beer to have ever been crowned with a gold medal in its category at an International beer contest. In 2008 it ranked first at The European Beer Star in the Imperial Stout category.

The nose is chocolate, coffee, and dark roasted malts. An inky black pour with a handsome but short-lived khaki head and moderate lacing. Flavors of chocolate, pepper, hints of coffee, and richly roasted malts meet the palate. Full body anda medium carbonation. A round mouthfeel feel is complemented by a long peppery burn. Nice! Overall, I liked the rich robust taste and the peppery juxposition. Well done.

Pours very dark. Hints of smoke and bitterness in the aroma. Taste is malty but a mix of bitterness and whiskey follows. An enjoyable stout.

At cellar temperature and into a stumpy tulip. Black as midnight with good legs and a tight, rocky tan head that holds for the length. Strong, heady waft brimming with marzipan, Madeira, leather, vanilla, topsoil and kelp, and Worcestershire sauce. Quite lively and racy on the palate with a leaner than anticipated body given the weight of the aroma. Earthy, meaty, umami malt profile makes it more than interesting. There is something ’old world’ about this one. Sweet, liquorice root front. Long, pasty, smoky, burnt malt finish. Loads of Marzipan, Bovril, Marmite, Madeira and charred wood surface amongst the earthy malts. Long in the finish; salty and malty with a yeasty backdrop and little of that alcohol. Quite characterful, yet easy to quaff with haste. Different! (33cL, BB 01/09/14, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Flaske 330ml fra Vinmonopolet, Bestillingsutvalget. Kullsort. Høyt mokkafarget skum som varer lenge. Aroma av røstet malt. Smaken er lakris & sjokolade. Blir fort syrlig & tørr. Innholdsrik og alkoholen er godt integrert.
