Smells some burnt caramel, chocolate, dried prunes; brown, brown foam, minimal head that disappears quickly; , lightly bitter, lightly sour, light sweetness; light body, thin feel, flat; smells intensely good but disappoints a bit - still at tasteworthy beer to be enjoyed.

Bottle 37.5 cl bought @ Domus Birrae (Rome, Italy), batch 340/10. A black/brown thick aspect with an inexistent foam. Zero lacing and head... but it’s not the Black Tuesday, haha. Aroma has a substantial alcohol note, then something like dried fruit (walnut, fig, cherries); spiced a little, a creamy sensation like butter, roasted and coffee notes. Body is really FLAT. Don’t know if due to aging, bad preservation, or if the beer is exactly like this, but malt (roasted) rises just a little among a dark fruits outline; carbonation is good and balanced, anyway. Mouthfeel has a strange chemical presence, but surprise will come in the end: the hot peppers pervade your mouth and it’s the same feeling after you’ve eat a dark chocolate with hot peppers. Warms the palate very long. Fact is, did I say chocolate? Mmm... couldn’t find anywhere. That’s all for now, a better rating is delayed to a freshier one.

33cl bottle. Black with a mocha head, very fizzy. Sweet and roasted malts, chocolate, nutty and earthy. Not as carbonated as it appears but still decent, medium bodied, bit of anise, moderate sweetness, becomes a little dry and cloying on the finish, lots of roasted malts, finally get a chilli kick as well.

Bottle, merci Pat! Dark, black pour with thin brown head. Aroma of coffee, burnt malt, chocolate, spice (chile), molasses. Taste was sweet, nice bitter finish, you can taste the chilies a bit, but mostly molasses and chocolate. Palate is relatively light-bodied with medium carb for the style. Pleasantly surprised by this one.

330mL bottle from 16th St. Liquor in West Vancouver. Pours a standard black with a small cocoa tinged head. Aroma is roasted malt, cocoa, some nuttiness and licorice. Flavour much the same but tastes a little thin. Finish doesn’t last very long. Drinkable but not a stand out.

Great stout, malty profile with notes of chocolate and coffee to start, with a mild spicy finish. As it warms, spice is gone, mouthfeel a liitle overwhelming, but still a damn good stout, though not for those whO are anti-coffee

330mL bottle, pours black with a small beige / tan head. Aroma of rich dark chocolate, roasted malts, licorice and nuts. Flavour of licorice, dark chocolate, nuts and burnt / roasted malt. Finishes nutty with a lingering roasty, bitterness. Light body for the style. Solid, though nothing out of the ordinary.
