Top fermented beer which is subjected to a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is deep dark ebony in color with a cappuccino head. The nose has aromas of chocolate, licorice, coffee grounds and tobacco with alcohol nuances. Its full bodied, long lasting, smooth and dry mouth is followed by a surprisingly hot finish that breaks its initial fullness and makes you crave more!

It is suitable for aging.

Dedicating one of our beers to Giuseppe Verdi was a must since our microbrewery is located in Roncole Verdi, the composerís birth place. When I returned from my first visit to New York City I decided to create a beer that would be superior in elegance, balance and drinkability to all those stout varieties I had overseas. Although the initial recipe has changed, the very first batch matched my vision. Its uniqueness lays in the use of chili pepper which combines very well with the beerís chocolate aroma. The hot finish also lightens its full bodied mouth by awakening the palate.

Verdi Imperial Stout is the first Italian craft beer to have ever been crowned with a gold medal in its category at an International beer contest. In 2008 it ranked first at The European Beer Star in the Imperial Stout category.

Bottle at Bishps Arms, Växjö. Pours a pith black with a ruby sparkle. Weak reddish brown head. Very much coffee and dark dark chocolate. Rich taste with heavily roasted caramell maltiness. Good good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: Opaque black body with a creamy tan head that forms a near opaque coating after settling.
Aroma: A little bit of pepper heat blended with chocolate and dark fruit, likely from oxidation, perhaps some licorice also. Toffee and rum are noted after reading another review, now itís very apparent.
Taste: A bit thin and grapey up front, the back end gets a bit chocolate though with a semi-sweet powder presence. Hints of peppery heat hints on the mid palate and sticks through til the finish mildly. Hints of roast, tobacco, and dark fruits are underneath it all. The finish lingers with a very light heat.
Palate: A bit thin for an imperial stout, mild carbonation, slightly creamy texture.
Overall: Iíd really love to try this fresh to see if this beer is heavy in oxidation or if itís intended to be a fruity stout. The beers Iíve had from Italy have all had a wine quality about them so itís not out of the question. The peppers are subtle and I absolutely love the presence of them. I imagine that this was fantastic fresh.

Draft to taster. Looks good; a slightly translucent very dark cola with foamy beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of dark malt, chocolate, and a bit of roast with some mild well-balanced pepper as well. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel thatís a bit thinner than Iíd prefer, but decent nonetheless. Enjoyable.

Verdi Imperial Stout Aroma: 7/10. Sour and yeasty, with notes of toffee, and rum. -- Appearance: 4/5. Beautiful dark brown head, nice black brew. Didnít realize this was unfiltered; got a lot of sediment swirling around the glass. -- Taste: 9/10. Intense roast, coffee, and chocolate flavors, a strong smokeyness with a nicely balanced sweetness and warmth to the tongue. Yum. -- Palate: 4/5. Sharply astringent, almost too much so. (Thatíd be the chili pepper! Subtle usage, actually.) Thatís the only flaw. Nice mouth-filling feeling to every sip, and the finish is light, all roast oats, malt, and hops, just the lightest bit of coffee. -- Overall: 16/20. A great beer that has small imperfections, but none that take away the solid artistry of this brew. This is a beer for those of you who like chilis+chocolate together; itíll please without the chilis being at all overwhelming. Yum. There are flaws to this beer, but they are superficial; the core brewing of this beer is absolutely outstanding.

330 ml bottle. Pours an opaque black colour with a small, short lived brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate and licorice. Sweet flavour matches aroma with a hint of chili pepper in the finish. Full body with oily texture and flat carbonation.

I had it in Rome. It was the beer that kindled my interest in craft beer. By far itís my favourite craft beer.

Not a well balanced beer, maybe the bottle I had needed to age. The alcohol over whelmed the flavour (which was interesting for a RIS). Also it was very carbonated for a stout, almost at a lager level. All of this leads me to believe that I got a bad bottle.
