COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Top fermented beer which is subjected to a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is deep dark ebony in color with a cappuccino head. The nose has aromas of chocolate, licorice, coffee grounds and tobacco with alcohol nuances. Its full bodied, long lasting, smooth and dry mouth is followed by a surprisingly hot finish that breaks its initial fullness and makes you crave more!

It is suitable for aging.

Dedicating one of our beers to Giuseppe Verdi was a must since our microbrewery is located in Roncole Verdi, the composer’s birth place. When I returned from my first visit to New York City I decided to create a beer that would be superior in elegance, balance and drinkability to all those stout varieties I had overseas. Although the initial recipe has changed, the very first batch matched my vision. Its uniqueness lays in the use of chili pepper which combines very well with the beer’s chocolate aroma. The hot finish also lightens its full bodied mouth by awakening the palate.

Verdi Imperial Stout is the first Italian craft beer to have ever been crowned with a gold medal in its category at an International beer contest. In 2008 it ranked first at The European Beer Star in the Imperial Stout category.

Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy/creamy, brown, fully lasting. Body is opaque black (flashlight tested). Aroma is moderately to heavily malty (chocolate cookie / cocoa powder, roasted grain / coffee), lightly hoppy (flowers), with notes of vanilla, alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Full body, syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic. Rather over the top with sweetness and perceived alcohol (alcohol burn is certainly exaggerated by chile heat, though)...drinks like a 10%+ beer. Aroma is ok but a little one-dimensional. Syrupy. Looks fantastic, though...thick, lasting head atop a fully opaque body.

Aroma of pepper oil with some coffee. Stouty taste of coffee with some choco. Leaves a tickling burning feeling of hot pepper when it goes down the throat. Pepper aftertaste with just a hint of coffee. Medium body. Well balanced beer. Alcohol taste note after some time.

Shared bottle at local tasting. Black colour, tan head. Roasty aroma, notes of coffee and dark chocolate, hints of chili. Medium sweet and roasty flavour, notes of coffee, dark chocolate and chili, which leaves a distinct chili burn on the palate and throat in the aftertaste.

Nice strong stout beer, not an imperial I think. Smooth and balanced, very enjoyable. The bottle is beautiful as well. Still it’s not a very memorable beer, just regular.

Kullsvart med medium skum. Aroma av sjokolade, mørk malt, humle og masse kaffe. Smaken er kaffe, mild sjokolade og en passende bitterhet. Nydelig munnfølelelse, rund og god. Fin ettersmak, perfekt ettersmak. Mildt bitter. Medium/tykk konsistens.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown-near black body with a large creamy off-white head, looking beautiful. Aroma is sweet malts, chocolate, toffee, hints of cardamom and leather. Taste is chocolate, coffee, black pepper, leather, sweet licorice and hints of dark malts, caramel and burnt toast. Full body, soft carbonation. Pretty nice and rather complex.

Bottle into a tulip glass. Pours a soda brown with a small brown head that leaves a decent amount of lacing. Aroma of cocoa, malts, black peppers, coffee and smoke. Taste is cocoa, coffee, smoke, black pepper, and roasted malts. Nice pepper burn in the finish. Full bodied, thick creamy texture, lively carbonation. Very good! Pepper burn is not overwhelming.
