COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Top fermented beer which is subjected to a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is deep dark ebony in color with a cappuccino head. The nose has aromas of chocolate, licorice, coffee grounds and tobacco with alcohol nuances. Its full bodied, long lasting, smooth and dry mouth is followed by a surprisingly hot finish that breaks its initial fullness and makes you crave more!

It is suitable for aging.

Dedicating one of our beers to Giuseppe Verdi was a must since our microbrewery is located in Roncole Verdi, the composer’s birth place. When I returned from my first visit to New York City I decided to create a beer that would be superior in elegance, balance and drinkability to all those stout varieties I had overseas. Although the initial recipe has changed, the very first batch matched my vision. Its uniqueness lays in the use of chili pepper which combines very well with the beer’s chocolate aroma. The hot finish also lightens its full bodied mouth by awakening the palate.

Verdi Imperial Stout is the first Italian craft beer to have ever been crowned with a gold medal in its category at an International beer contest. In 2008 it ranked first at The European Beer Star in the Imperial Stout category.

Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy/creamy, brown, fully lasting. Body is opaque black (flashlight tested). Aroma is moderately to heavily malty (chocolate cookie / cocoa powder, roasted grain / coffee), lightly hoppy (flowers), with notes of vanilla, alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Full body, syrupy texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic. Rather over the top with sweetness and perceived alcohol (alcohol burn is certainly exaggerated by chile heat, though)...drinks like a 10%+ beer. Aroma is ok but a little one-dimensional. Syrupy. Looks fantastic, though...thick, lasting head atop a fully opaque body.

Light and faintly sweet, this light and stylish stout boasts subtle chili, subtle toast and chocolate and coffee. Sophisticated and very very classy.

Bottle from Firma Bier, BB 01 07 17, large sample. Dark color, medium creamy brown head. Aroma of licorice, brown malts, chocolate, slight pepper, slight spicy, bit roast. Slight malty sweetness in taste, soft spicy chili, roasty bitterness. Finish tingles with spicy pepper.

On tap at TCBW. Black with a beige head. Malty aroma with roasted malt, chocolate and nice chili notes. Medium sweet with roasty flavours and a nice chili burn in the finish. Tasty stuff. [Tasted 2016-04-02]

Keg at The Three Johns, Islington as ’Birrificio del Ducato Verdi Imperial Stout’. Black with a big creamy brown head. Aroma is coffee-forward, twig, roast malt. Body is smooth, creamy, light tingle. Body is chocolate, a little lactic, oatmeal, tobacco finish. All quite light and pedestrian until the chili heat kicks in. The chili heat really lifts this beer from its thin base and makes it worth drinking.

Bottle, 330 ml, courtesy of and shared with JFK10000. Pours dark brown with brownish head. Roasted malts, chocolate, sweet, chilli finish leaves burning sensation. Good stuff, but I’d prefer chilli finish to be more subtle.

Chocolate, coffee, notes of porto, awesome pitch black with a minimal tan head, medium/full body, law carbonation, taste of chocolate, more coffee in the final where the spiciness and the warming become intense but pleasant, medium/strong sweetness...the perfect symphony.
