Top fermented beer which is subjected to a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is deep dark ebony in color with a cappuccino head. The nose has aromas of chocolate, licorice, coffee grounds and tobacco with alcohol nuances. Its full bodied, long lasting, smooth and dry mouth is followed by a surprisingly hot finish that breaks its initial fullness and makes you crave more!

It is suitable for aging.

Dedicating one of our beers to Giuseppe Verdi was a must since our microbrewery is located in Roncole Verdi, the composer’s birth place. When I returned from my first visit to New York City I decided to create a beer that would be superior in elegance, balance and drinkability to all those stout varieties I had overseas. Although the initial recipe has changed, the very first batch matched my vision. Its uniqueness lays in the use of chili pepper which combines very well with the beer’s chocolate aroma. The hot finish also lightens its full bodied mouth by awakening the palate.

Verdi Imperial Stout is the first Italian craft beer to have ever been crowned with a gold medal in its category at an International beer contest. In 2008 it ranked first at The European Beer Star in the Imperial Stout category.

Smells some burnt caramel, chocolate, dried prunes; brown, brown foam, minimal head that disappears quickly; , lightly bitter, lightly sour, light sweetness; light body, thin feel, flat; smells intensely good but disappoints a bit - still at tasteworthy beer to be enjoyed.

Chocolate, dark, toasted malts, light coffee, some pepper. Black, medium, frothy, beige head. Light sweet. More chocolate and toasted malts, dark fruits, sweet and mellow at first then the chilli kicks in, medium bodied. Very decent Imperial Stout, well-balanced, nice touch with the modest chilli kick in the finish. Keg at Italian Job, Elephant & Castle.

Bottle. Black with short lasting head. Aroma is coffee, roasted, salt meat, bacon and some peated. Taste is roasted, licorice, coffee and the aftertaste is chilli in a nice pleasent way. A fine beer.

Very dark pour from a bottle during pizza dinner in NYC. lots of dark fruit and very full bodied. I liked this beer. definitely better as a before or after dinner beer rather than a with dinner beer.

Nera con schiuma nulla. Al naso spinta su caffè, cioccolato, nota alcolica netta. La bevuta è molto piacevole, corpo non deciso quindi è piuttosto beverina, con note di malto tostato, caffè e cioccolato. Carbonazione bassa. Imperial niente male.

Opaque dark brown liquid with a moderate tan head. Heavy malt aromas with dark bread, toasted and roasted malt and dark chocolate. A bit earthy and some bitter cherry pits also in the scent. Flavor starts moderately sweet and leads to a light acid and some black malt bitterness. Finish is a bit ashy. Full feel. 9/10

Bottle 33cl. Poured into a teku glass. Pitch black, small foamy tan head, recedes quickly, minimal lacing; complex aroma, dark malts, licorice, peat, light smoked meat, soy sauce; smooth taste, medium sweet and bitter, coffee, licorice, bitter chocolate, alcohol; aftertaste sweetbitter, chocolate, warming alcohol, peppery notes linger on and on; full bodied, creamy texture, soft carbonation; a rich and tasty imperial stout, very nice.

From bottle. Small dark head, very dark brown, nearly black colour, hazy. Aroma: coffee, dark chocolate, vanila, a bit of smoke. Bitter taste with long and intensive spicy aftertaste. Full body, average carbonation. Wow, pretty good, very nice spicy finish.

Bottle enjoyed at Luppolo 12, Roma. Poured clear, almost black, with an initially big mid-brown coloured head, which soon dissipates. Aroma of chocolate, malts, coffee, and a light peppery spice. Relatively light sweetness, with a deep roasted bitterness. The chilli pepper is a slow developer, but half way through a light burn comes through and continues to build in intensity. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation.
