Top fermented beer which is subjected to a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is deep dark ebony in color with a cappuccino head. The nose has aromas of chocolate, licorice, coffee grounds and tobacco with alcohol nuances. Its full bodied, long lasting, smooth and dry mouth is followed by a surprisingly hot finish that breaks its initial fullness and makes you crave more!

It is suitable for aging.

Dedicating one of our beers to Giuseppe Verdi was a must since our microbrewery is located in Roncole Verdi, the composer’s birth place. When I returned from my first visit to New York City I decided to create a beer that would be superior in elegance, balance and drinkability to all those stout varieties I had overseas. Although the initial recipe has changed, the very first batch matched my vision. Its uniqueness lays in the use of chili pepper which combines very well with the beer’s chocolate aroma. The hot finish also lightens its full bodied mouth by awakening the palate.

Verdi Imperial Stout is the first Italian craft beer to have ever been crowned with a gold medal in its category at an International beer contest. In 2008 it ranked first at The European Beer Star in the Imperial Stout category.

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2016 Bottle 330ml. Served at room temperature. Pours a very dark brown (virtually black) with a dense foamy, coffee coloured head that is mostly diminishing. Intensely complex aroma with toasted smoky malts, treacle, Sambucca, dates and Belgium chocolates. Light to medium bitterness with toasted smoky malts, liquorice, molasses, strong black coffee, dark cooking chocolate, leather and prunes. Full bodied with soft carbonation, an oily texture and a big, long lasting warming, espresso-like finish. Very well balanced and refined Imperial Stout.

330 ml bottle. Hueless opaque dark brown, mostly lasting darker mocha foam. Chocolate light roast aroma, some licorice. Taste is mostly smooth lightly sweet chocolate, mild roasty malt, hints of coffee and black licorice. Soft carbonation, medium -full bodied, lightly hopped. Slightly tart bitter finish, an easier Impy. NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

(Birrificio del Ducato Verdi Imperial Stout) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 8.2% Black coloured body with a small but thick brown head on top, average retention, leaving some foam around the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, light chocolate and faint vanilla, some alcohol hints, liquorice. Taste has more roasted malts, coal, a bit more chocolate now, liquorice, chilli peppers with a light bur on the back of the throat, especially on the finish. Medium to thick body, soft carbonation, sticky on the palate. Very nice.

Deep dark color with little beige head. Aroma is full of coffee, chocolatte, little oxidated, acid. Taste is alcohol, espresso, bourbon, little watery, spiced and acid. Strange...

Black, without any foam remaining. Light coffee aroma, equal in taste. Not outspoken, bit flat, coffee and chocolate notes, light bitter. Bit dissapointing. (Milano 201512)

W aromacie przyjemna czekolada, kawa, rodzynki, palone słody.

En trevlig kraftfull IS. Gott

Bottle. lack body with brown head. Aroma is roasted malts with coffee and some chocolate. Taste is also roasted malts with licorice chocolate and and coffee and slight chili. Aftertaste is roasted malts bitterness with a little bit warmth of the chili. Usually I don’t like chili in beer but here its very nice.
