4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Lukaduke (114) - Portland, Maine, USA - MAY 28, 2012
Pours a bubbly black with a big gaseous mocha colored head that slides down the glass... Rich aromas of chocolate, espresso and a touch of earthy nuttiness. On the palate its quite lively with typical stout appeal. However a nice bubble similar to a belgian style stout brings out a little more of the dark fruit, wheaty malt flavors and a beautiful hint of smokey chipolte in the finish, not overbearing just enough to make you want to keep drinking it !

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Vertical Bacon Strips (1697) - Asshat, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 7, 2012
Thx, I believe to boutip for sending me this beer years ago. Apparently I never reviewed it. A second thx goes to the Sugarbowl for getting this mutha on tap. Poured out black with a generous medium brown compact head that settles to a cover. Pretty good subdued and hidden aroma of tasty milk chocolate, uncooked green pepper (this is not a bad thing), light chipotle smoke thing, lightly roasted malts, orange rind candy taste in smell form and the night time fresh air smell from every night in Mexico during Anders wedding. Smooth roast, light dark coffee as a bottom base, light heat when you really let it settle in your mouth, bakers chocolate, roasty smoke, licorice and happiness. Very smooth and a slowly accumulating dull heat burn that never annoys or distracts. Full bodied with the faintest of bitterness. Tasty on tap. I like eggs fried with real bacon bits.

Draft - Smokey bitterness, typical for this style. Dark with a brown thin head lingering around the edge. Rich malty taste, the chilli definately present with a refreshing sweetness allowing it to be a beer you can drink all night.

Draught @ The Trappist. Black with cappuccino head. Malts etc but the presence of chili is most characteristic. Not overwhelming but providing a chalky spiciness.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 HopTsing (158) - Sandston, Virginia, USA - APR 5, 2012
Did I mention that I love a good Stout, and this one, from the tap, was one of the best. Those Italians do beer so well. Dark as midnight with a thick rich head. Aromas and flavors of fruity, chocolate, roasty malts. Full bodied and delicious like a Sophia..

Tap. Very dark with a thick creamy dark head. Smells like dessert- chocolate, tart cherries, boozy, and roasty. Flavor follows. Smooth, dry roasty finish but then a bit of a sweet hang-on.
