Bottled 330ml BB 11/2012 Bierkompass. Clear copper color, small white head. Good aroma of smoke, toasted and cara malts. Light to medium bodied. Cara malt, smokeyness, some bitterness in the finish. Tickling carbonation. Nicely drinkable. For wedding? For sure!

330ml bottle from The Wine Emporium. Great beer with a great story behind it. Smokiness in the aroma and flavour reminds me of a campfire.

In short: A copper ale on the meaty side of smoke. Acceptable.
How: From a bottle at Montreal Mondial 2013.
The look: Cloudy copper body topped by a very small beige head.
In long: Nose is medium smoky, a smoked pull pork and beach campfire. In mouth the smoked pull pork sensation dominates, oily cereals, some caramel, balancing leafy hops. Feeble bubbles, a mouthfeel that lacks vivacity. Nothing exciting here, a slightly below take on the style. Not sure where the name comes from, but speaking of weddings, I always cry at weddings, thinking it is Saturday and I’m not at a pub drinking beer.

Bottle from the GBBF 13 in the comfort of my home, along side Marmite on toast. Slightly hazy amber with an off white head. Modest smoke on the aroma but far more in the flavour, in a cheese rather than pork kind of way. Slightly more body at 5.4% than your average German Rauchbier, so held up well to many of those I drank on my recent visit to Frankonia: pre Bock season. A very respectable interpretation of this style.

On tap at La Fine Mousse - Paris, FR. Color: nice clear amber brown beer with small carbonization and medium ivory foam. Smell: roasted and peat malt, burn bread. Taste: nice smoked taste. Aftertaste: good bitterness with smoked and roasted taste.

Bottle from GBBF 2013 drank at home. Brown beer with a lasting beige head. Lovely smoked aroma. I mean you have to like smoked beers, but this is a pretty good one. Smoked cheese rather than smoked meat. It’s good in the mouth. Just the right side of TCP on aroma. Good though

Bottle at GBBF. It pours deep brown with a small yellow-white head. The nose is earth, light smoke, oiliness, medicinal notes and Snickers. Tap @ Beer Temple. Clear amber color, short head. Aroma of german smoked malts, beechwood, slight flowery hops. Soft bitter taste, dry from the smoked malts. Almost classic Bamberg style rauchbier. Could have used a bit more body, but great brew overall. Cheers to your wedding!

Poured a reddish brown with a healthy off white head. Aroma of the roasted malt. Medium body, flavour is a classic Bamberg style beer, better than most local versions.
