COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Top fermented beer which undergoes a secondary fermentation in bottle. It is intense gold, almost orange in color, with aromas of fruit in syrup (pineapple, peach and apricot), candy sugar, bread crust and a note of chives from the Belgian hops of Poperinge. Warm and sweet on the palate with a firm fizzy finish. Strong and structured, sweet and inviting. A tribute to a friend who went missing, who we may meet again one day, just like the sun that is hiding behind the hill.

Winterlude is also named after a Bob Dylan song, a perfect fit since it is a winter warmer. The idea of winter as an interlude representing both the pause before awakening and the oblivion before new life.
This beer is inspired by some varieties of the Belgian Tripels. The hops come from the Poperinge region, a variety I have always been fascinated by. I connected with one of the region’s local farmer and had him set a preferred variety aside from his most recent harvest.
Because it combines incredibly well with food, Winterlude has always made us proud with our catering industry clients.

Bottle - 330ml. Superb cloudy golden body with a thick white foamy head. Fresh hoppy aroma with flowery, herbal, and honeyish hints. Alcohol is well hidden. Its sharp hoppy taste carries malty and coriander notes. Ends with a long, robust bitter/herbal finish. Well done.

0.33 l bottle at Monk’s Cafe Wallingatan, Stockholm. Amber color. Sweet aromas of wort, toffee, biscuits, nuts and orange. Sweet toffeish and nutty flavor with orange, clove and pepper. Very worty taste, which is usually not my thing. Extra points from a nice rustic and artisanal character.

33 cl bottle. Pours out in a very hazy yellow colour with a small creamy white head. Dense aroma of marzipan, dough and apricots. Medium to full-bodied with notes of marzipan, apricots, almonds and mild alcohol. Some grassy hops in the warming aftertaste.

(Rating #3297)

My Bottom Line:
This Tripel’s gingery spiciness and honeyed malts coalesce over herbal hops and doughy yeast for a classy example of the style.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A fluffy head of foam decorates the cloudy golden.
-Carbonation is quite expansive early on, so this one benefits from some breathing.
-Fruit esters are peachy and slightly tropical.
-Spicy hop bitterness is lenient.
-Alcohol is well concealed.
-This may not stand out in the world of Tripels, but it is mighty well done and enjoyable.

Bottle.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy orangey color ale with a large foamy head with great retention and some very good lacing. Aroma of fruity ester with a bready yeast and a well balanced lightly sweet Belgian-style malt backbone. Taste is also a nice mix between some nicely sweetness Belgian-style malt backbone and some fruity ester with a light spicy yeast finish. Body is full with limited filtration and good bottle-conditioning with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well brewed and something I would gladly have more often.

This tripel pours like cloudy honey with soda fizz carbonation. It has my absolutely favorite aroma of walking around in Italy in the summer, and that is honeysuckles. The flavor is of flowers, honey, and flour, but it has a hint of one of rubberband flavor, which detracts somewhat from the good things this beer has going for it.

Bottle, bought @ YNWA, Kolding.
Pours hazy orange-amber with a big, frothy, off-white head. Great lacings. Aroma is mild spicy, oranges, coriander, green apple zest on top of yeast and great firm maltiness. Medium carbonation, great dry and wonderfully creamy palate. Super lovely flavour, bitter and grassy coupled well with malty sweet and phenolic. Grassy, sweet, apple zesty with a very dry finish. Some pepper hits in the far finish. Elegant and very well put together.
