COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Extra Hop® is produced once or twice a year, usually in the spring.
It is a German Pilsener produced by way of decoction, lighter than Tipopils (4.8 against 5.2% alcohol by volume), with 11 Plato degrees. It is drier, more bitter and fragrant. Since it is matured in barrels, it has all the time and ideal conditions for perfect decantation of the yeast, and is therefore quite limpid. People who are used to Tipopils will think much has been lost with the yeast. Extra Hop® does not have the typical thickness of unfiltered, yeasty beers. Nevertheless, it offers a lot to people willing to take the time to become more familiar with it. Like other Pilseners, it is a simple beer that is evaluated according to just a few characteristics: bitterness, body (a hint of malt), hoppy aroma (quantity, quality and persistence) and, most importantly, the harmony between these three factors.

Draught @ Brewery tap, Birrificio Italiano, Lurago Marinone (CO), Italy. Wow what a pilsner .... Light unclear medium yellow color with a average, frothy, excellent lacing, fully lasting, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, caramel, heavy hoppy, grass, citrus. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long long duration, and a very nice dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. THIS IS THE BEST TASTING PILSNER I HAVE TASTED - Well made Agostino. ;o)) (081107)

Tap East. Keg. Hazy gold beer, little white head. Light crisp palate. Nice citric hops - lemon and orange. Slighty Belgian yeast vibe here. Crisp finish, mild minerals.

First batch of the season

The perfect aroma of noble hops, with a light mouthfeel, some crispy malt, and more hop, with a nice grassy presence. Clean.
Tonight, the best beer in the pub.
Thumbs up from my sister too!

2012-04-10, draught at Birratrovo, Como, 7-4-6-3-13=33
Hazy blond color. Grassy hop aroma, with light cereals. Clean malt flavor, a bit too much yeast and bitterness. Pleasant Helles. A bit harsh.

Gold pilsner, beautiful head. Nice hop aroma. Dry, heavily hopped, bitter; fruity hop. Palate long, bitter, not so aromatic.

Keg (Bir&Fud, Rome)
Hazy honey colour, small head. Massive hoppy aroma. Really grainy husky taste. Crisp palate. A touch buttery, but not off. A lovely pils, the hops big and bold, but very well balanced.

Tap at Paradiso Georgetown. 12oz cocktail type glass, $11 for the pour, christ. Low haze light golden, smaller soapy white foam. Spotty lace. Nose is soft, fresh, fragrant garden and grass, cantaloupe, sweet valencia orange, flashes of beautiful limeade. Has the right notes, but not so expressive. Yellow apple comes through. Taste is very bitter, harsher grapefruit rind and potpourri, light metallic bite that plagues the tap beers at Paradiso. Light butter biscuit tries to peek through. Doesn’t ever quite come together unfortunately. Disappointing as the finish is punishing rather than balanced or complete. Feels simply too kettle hoppy and out of balance. Carbonation is lively, nearly refreshing. Finishes with metal and kettle hop palate abuse.

Keg at Open Baladin, Roma, 09/02/14. Clear pale blonde with a good sized white head that dissipates then retains as a covering. Nose is lemon rind, grassy, tangerine, clean and fresh, floral notes, light mineral pang. Taste comprises orange sherbet, lemon rind, citric tinged straw, light hops, bread dough. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, clean citric tinged closure. Nice citric hopped pils.

Draught Beautifully presented with huge white head, like whipped cream and a hopcone on top of it, over golden beer. The hopbell has to go - it prevents the extremely malty/toasted nose to be perceived. Strangely, I get a nose of Croque Monsieur ... Very malty (!yes!!) beer, very dry malt, and strangely enough, one gets the dryness of dry-hopping without the taste. Crisp finish, with honey, in the good sense of the word ’crisp’. Retronasal finally more hop flavours. Light to medium bodied, long fading flavours. Calling this a "surprise" is not doing this right. I’m sorry about the Croque, but it’s spot-on. I cannot for the love of God understand why the Tipopils, its base is really hoppy and refreshing, is finally better than this maltbomb, posing as hoppy...

2014-04-20. Lightly hazy yellow body with a white head. 3+ Aroma of noble hops, flowery and notes of flour, light grass. Flavour is lightly bitter throughout, floral hops. Average bodied palate, soft carbonation. Okay, the hop profile is not to my own taste but it is a pretty decent beer. On tap at Proletariat, NYC.
