3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 elektrikjester (75) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - APR 8, 2012
Almost fizzed out of the bottle when opened. Pours an opaque dark brown with a massive tan head. The pillowy head thins out over the course of the beer, but it remains intact to the end. Aroma is restrained, but coffee and dried fruit (cherry) are most discernible, followed by toasted malts. Taste is best described as sour-sweet, with coffee, dried fruit (cherry again, but also prune) leading the way, with a strong alcohol flavor detectible. Malts are there, and they lend a slightly burnt flavor to the taste, but this one is just on the edge of what I’d consider a stout--more Irish dry stout than anything. Mouthfeel may be one of the more interesting aspects of this beer. There is a fizziness in the head, with a sharp, yet light carbonation. Beer is more watery than one would expect for a stout.
In sum: I’m a huge coffee drinker, and I am more than familiar with Guatemala Huehuetenango. This coffee tends to have a very fruity flavor, particularly when lightly roasted. I have no idea how roasted the beans were for this beer, but I’d say the brewer was able to adequately convey this particular coffee. The real problem comes down to the beer style, which lacks some of the defining characteristics of a stout. Give it a try, but I’m not sure this one ranks among the best coffee stouts. Nevertheless, it’s refreshing to see attention paid to the actual type of coffee used for once.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 flavio_b (235) - ROME, ITALY - MAR 24, 2012
Woow! On bottle, 75cl. Light, drinkable and absolutely not nasty as you drink. Fabulous, because it’s a great blend of cocoa and coffee. Very noticeable each one of those two tastes, but it’s not nasty at the same time. Lack of froth with a medium low carbonation. Great job!
By the way, on the bottle it’s indicated as Alc. 4.5% Vol, not 7.5% as reported in the beer description here reported.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Cybercat (1901) - Georgia, USA - NOV 5, 2011
Aroma has a strong coffee overtone and hints of malt and fruit. It pours an opaque coffee brown with a fairly thick, if not persistent, light tan head. The sample I got fizzed like crazy, so open with care! Coffee dominates the flavor, which has malty and apple notes. Texture has average body and only a little fizziness. Not the best I’ve had, but worthy.

Murky brown pour with fizzy off white head ... aroma of coffee beans and chocolate .... taste is of roasted coffee and chocolate with a decent amount of caramel malt ... was very overcarbonated and too fizzy in the mouthfeel ... dry roasted finish .... the overcarbonation ruined this brew
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 madmitch76 (6173) - , Essex, ENGLAND - JUL 10, 2011
9th July 2011 Scopeys East Croydon tasting - Cheers Paul! Cloudy dark brown beer. Small tan head. Light thin palate. Slightly sour dark malt that tastes a little oxidised. Just a little mild coffee. Finishes semi dry. An okay beer but pretty dissapointing in the context of the brewer.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Scopey (1659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 10, 2011
Bottle at my East Croydon beer tasting, thanks to madmitch76. It pours muddy brown, with a thin, foamy beige head and very low carbonation. The nose is coffee, milk chocolate, polish and brown sugar. The flavour is weak coffee, milk chocolate, sweet lactose, roasted malt and well hidden alcohol, with some light bitterness in the finish. It is quite weak and thin in the mouth. Almost, but not quite....
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Leighton (4091) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 9, 2011
Bottle at the East Croydon Beer Tasting. K-Dog comin’ through! Pours foggy brown with a foamy, off-white head. Aroma holds raw, sharp ground coffee with just hints of dark malts. Flavor is pretty sweet, thankfully, standing up to what is a rich coffee character. Some sweet, roasted malts and mild bitterness. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with mild warmth, balanced coffee and burnt malts. A fairly delicious beer.

Pours a ruby copper brown with one finger of frothy light tan head. Weak nose, papery with some day old coffee and fruity notes. Mildly cidery notes with some spice. Awful flavor, some coffee. Just awful.

Shared by emacgee. Dark amber with small white head. Nose is light coffee, sour cocoa, paint thinner, light hops. Thin mouthfeel and watery coffee flavor, with some light tartness. Weird.
