3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MartinT (6340) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 11, 2012
My Bottom Line:
Toasted malts and lightly caramelized sugars produce a subtle flavor profile for this soft yet strong brew.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A healthy head of foam tops the dark copper.
-Fruitiness seeps from the caramel.
-The aroma is really subtle.
-This is supposed to harken back to old times, but if that’s the case, these are times which were quite different from those referred to in Su Puta’s Senoliu Senovinis or Vilniaus Alus’s Senojo series.
Bottle.

Nutty brown, no head. Aroma of sweet malt, nuts, butter, some hops. Flavour has really strong malt, very smooth and balanced. Some metallic and berry alcohol taste.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 rosenbergh (3486) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JAN 16, 2011
1 000 ml plastic bottle. From Lithuania. Courtesy of Brandman.
Clear copper colour with tiny off-white head.
Caramel, nuts, molasses, paper, wood and diacetyl in aroma.
Flavour is very mild bitter hops, full malty body, nuts and some alcohol.
Very low carbonation. Actually quite alright but some extra hoppiness wouldn’t do any harm. Not as traditional as I feared.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 larsga (4655) - Oslo, NORWAY - SEP 7, 2010
Medium light beige head. Amber body with light carbonation. Light mealy syrupy peppery aroma with honey notes. Dry-sweet papery mealy alcoholic taste with honey earth and vinegar notes. Fullish body. Mealy, slightly hot mouthfeel. Dryish mealy fruity aftertaste with earthy vinegary notes. Weird. Sort of half-liked it. Not sure how well they’ve cleaned their draft lines here, which may have something to do with it. (0.33l draft at Stikliai Alude, Vilnius.)

UPDATED: APR 8, 2012 1l bottle (SOPP2009) (5:4:5:3:9=2.6)
Very rich sweet and savoury yeasty meaty umami aroma. (Yes, I just invented the concept of an umami aroma.) Simple sweet malty body, rich caramel. Maybe some mushroom soy, but pretty damn drinkable. Perhaps a little sweet.
1L bottle (Birzu Brewery) (5:3+:5:3:11=2.7)
Smooth, yeasty aroma. Sweetish caramelly body, a touch of burnt treacle. Smooth and covers the 7% well.
