Bischoff Donnersberger

(Bottle 50 cl) Rather deep, reddish brown than black with a fine, brownish head. Surprisingly light-bodied in spite of a marked malt character. Finishes with the typical ashy bitterness so common for Schwarzbiers. 260501

(50cl bottle) Small beige head atop crystal clear mahogany body. Aroma is medium sweet, skunkgrass, some roast, caramel. Taste is medium sweet, roast, caramel, some skunk/earthy, light raisin, chocolate, lemon lager yeast. Watery light-medium body, some smoothness.

Poured from a 500ml green screw-top bottle - This has a dark mahogany body lightly highlighted in red and a smallish tan head that evaporates too quickly. The aroma is rich with chocolate, roasted malt, and a prune or two. A bit thin and weakened in flavor, all carries over from the nose along with a hint of smoke. Not bad.

Dark mahogany color with a Garnet glint when held to the light. Moderate head of dried bone colored bubbles. Somewhat worty in scent with dark caramel, toasted malt, sweet roasted peanuts and waft of smoke. Very metallic from the first quaff. I feel like I am sucking on cubes of aluminum and iron, along with a 9 volt battery in my mouth. Some sweet caramel malt and mild acidity add to the mix. The acidity just builds and while creating a cleansing sensation, I fell my mouth is being sanitized. I could see cooking with this, but it’s not that much of a brew for sitting around with.

Bottle:Deep amber coloured, clear, small, sowly vanishing off-white foamy layer; papery caramelly nose with a grassy, german Pilsner-like background; mainly dry, bitter 8sweet) flavour, light-bodied for a beer of 5.2% ABV; Pilsner-like, again. grassy-bitter fnish. Cheap colored Pils........
