Nutty, somewhat sock-y roast aroma. Green bottle, clear, cola-brown beer with an almost white head. Toasted soy nuts dominate the flavor, lightly bitter, dry, medium roast. Medium body, lwo carbonation. Short roast finish. New Leaf Market.

4/18/12. 12oz bottle labeled "Bischoff Premium Black Lager." Dark brown pour, lots of red under the light, with a small khaki head that fades. Light aroma with some hints of roast, caramel, and metal. Dryer flavor with touches of graininess and coffee, but there’s a huge, distracting metallic aspect. Eh.

A decent schwarzbier. Aroma was so so. A little skunk with roasted malt and dirty dishrag. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a one finger off white head. Taste was a lot better than the aroma.A little weak and watery up front. Notes of yeast are the only thing upon first sip, but after the swallow a nice burnt caramel and toast flavor come out. The flavors leave as quick as they come so the finish is quick. Very one dimensional but drinkable. Decent carbonation keeps the beer interesting.

Frank (2056) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 14, 2012
This beer pours a transparent brown color w/ a thin head of fine white bubbles. The nose and flavor are both quite mild w/ grainy malts and just a hint of coffee-like roast character. Quite dry w/ a light bodied and very drinkable texture w/ vigorous carbonation. Some slight fruitiness and caramel comes out as it warms. Not bad but rather bland.

Pours a dark cola, small head, fair lacing. Caramel malt and grain with a subtle touch of plum and black cherry. Slight bittering into a warm finiah. Drinkable, not memorable.

UPDATED: OCT 18, 2011 Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Dimpled Mug. Appearance: Dark reddish-brown with moderate off-white head, settling to a thin line. Aroma: Cocoa, caramel, cherry, straw and some spiciness. Taste: Just barely sweet caramel, cocoa and molasses initially. Finish is more cherry-like with just a hint of metallic, spicy hops. Palate: Moderate carbonation, medium-light body, semi-dry finish. Overall: Decent Schwarzbier that could use a little more hops and/or depth. Pretty easy to drink overall.

Sampled from a 12 oz green bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with a small beige head that lingered and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was perfumey, bitter and tart. The flavor was perfumey, bitter, tart and only mildly malty. The finish was long and perfumey. Medium body. Eh.

Koelschtrinker (7038) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - JUN 21, 2011
Test vom 30.11.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,8,9,6,9,8 - 8,00
