Pours dark unclear chestnut amber with a big creamy beige head. The aroma is decent, sweet and malty but nothing special. Flavor and body are very light and malty, lacking a roasty profile that I expect.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 monk191 (374) - California, USA - APR 8, 2013
A low to average black lager. Pours a nice syrupy black with a light tan head. Smells like beer, a little bit of chocolate, and cigars. Taste is similar, coffee and chocolate, and some burnt cigarettes. Quite malty as well. Had from beer of the month club.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Steverus0 (68) - Shreveport, Louisiana, USA - APR 1, 2013
Pours a burnt caramel, with a fairly light head that doesn't clog much. Nose is a standard lager, taste mellow with the roasted barley but not much depth behind it, contributing to a clean finish. Nice for a summer black, to light for a winter by the fire

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 Jrwhitney6 (117) - - MAR 23, 2013
Pours a translucent chestnut brown - not as dark as other schwarzbiers. Nose reminded me of a festbier - mostly malt, with a touch of honey. Taste is of nutty malt. A little thin. Eh.

Nice bite of espresso bitterness with hints of dark chocolate and some dried fruit. Pours black with an airy, foamy beige head Palate is slightly watery, but overall this beer hits the mark for a schwarzbier. Not a big fan of their pils, but this one is nice.

(old notes) A few bottles from a restaurant in Venice as Bischoff Black Lager. Pours a deep brown with a thin, soapy head. Aroma is mostly roasted malt with a little peat/moss earth underneath. Flavor is brown sugar, some corn cereal, a little bitterness. Crisp finish. Not bad for the style.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 tomer (1221) - Rishon Le Zion, ISRAEL - OCT 4, 2012
Draught as "Bischoff Black Lager", clear brownish colour, light coffee aroma, flavour dominated by dried fruits with some hints of coffee, light bitterness and no roastiness, feels a bit watery. Dull and uninteresting.

Aroma is dark grains/malts and mild nuttiness. The flavor is nutty malts, a hint of fruit and a smooth finish.
