Screw-cap bottle: Golden, mid-sized loose head; sweet-malty, a bit perfumed, a bit honeyish nose; moderate sweet flavour, medium bodied, a bit sticky; shorter, faint sweetish-lemony finish with sweet malt and alcohol. Not great.........

Koelschtrinker (7038) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - JUN 1, 2011
Etwas blumig, in Teilen vergoren fruchtig. Zum Abgang hin wird der Alkohol wieder deutlicher schmeckbar. 12/11/12/12/11/12

Bierkrug (1666) - Idar-Oberstein (In East Africa), Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - NOV 24, 2010
500 ml bottle in Germany. Pours a clear pale gold yellow with a full thick long lasting white head. Aroma is sweet malts and hay. Taste is strong at first and hits you with a strong taste of alcohol and medicine. It mellows as you drink it. Palate has the same features but to a lesser degree. Strange stuff and not a well put together Heller Bock in my mind.

Bottle from Allen, thanks! Golden color. Soft grassy aroma. Malty sweet grassy flavor with some distant hop notes. Not unpleasant, just a bit plain. The alcohol luckily remains almost unnoticed.

bottle, Dake nach Bochum! Clear deep golden yellow, enormous head. Malty, slightly sweet with nice hoppy herbal accents. A well-balanced Heller Bock.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2009 Half-liter bottle, courtesy of Allen. Best by 19/08/09. Clear, shiny topaz with a steady stream of bubbles that replenishes the quarter inch head. Aroma is honey, grassy hops and slight rubber. Flavor is corn and honey, dried well by some tingly, lemon-grassy hops and touches of alcohol. Near-medium body is smoothly carbonated and dry. Some frosty lace left behind.

Bottle 50cl. @ home.
[ Trade by Koelschtrinker ]. Clear medium yellow orange color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is light to moderate malty, sweet malt, moderate peppery, alcohol notes, light hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, with a peppery finish. Body is light to medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. [20081029]

Bottle. Sweet malty nose with hints of grass and flowers. Amber, heavy fine carbonation, golden layer. Good grassy balance to the malt sweetness, ends in a dry note. Chewy bready body with a sparkly light mouthfeel, light marzipan retronasal. A fresh and summery interpretation of the style, I’m well impressed.

Bov (7354) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - DEC 23, 2008
courtesy of Julien Allen - pours a clear golden colour with a white foam; aroma of herbs, alcohol and apples; sweet and quite full-bodied; long aftertaste, fruity and herbal with a touch of alcohol - well-balanced and solid

It is golden with a huge, white head. The aroma has notes of malt, flower and fruit. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. The flavour has sweetness and notes of malt, fruit and warming alcohol. The finish has a slightly dry, light bitterness and a hint of butterscotch. It is pleasant, smooth and nice.

UPDATED: SEP 17, 2009 Bottled 50cl. Clear golden color. Poor head retention. Not much lacework. Well, after several samplings and after having deleted loads of text: I think this is a good Heller Bock.
