2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 jasonp (1556) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - FEB 7, 2008
Bottle, courtesy of Argo0. Pours clear dark bronze with a white head. Aroma of smoke and caramel toastiness. Flavor starts off with deep caramel, bread, then sweet cola, light noble hop character. Some alcohol kick. Too sweet for my tastes. I found the texture to be full/round with moderate carbonation.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 3fourths (6948) - Straßgiech, Bavaria, GERMANY - JAN 27, 2008
500ml screwtop bottle shared by argo0. Looks like balsamic vinegar. Has a clear cola colored brown body with little head. Sweet cola, maple malt and some sharp oxidized cardboard flavors, some peppermint and grapefuit flavors, but overall not very good. Resembled cough syrup at times.

Provided by argo0. Clear, brown body with no head. The nose is sweet malts with caramel, raisins and slightly metallic. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter with autolyzed yeast, caramel, raisins, roast and apple. Medium body is a bit thin with light carbonation.

50cL screwtop bottle, courtesy argo0. Thanks, Aaron! Pours a clear cola color; thin off-white head. A bit of skunk, smoke, and sugar in the aroma; not much. Medium mouthfeel showing sugar, caramel, and roasted malts; I’m really not getting a whole lot out of this beer; smoke and roasted character, but a singular expression. Medium, sticky sugar and caramel in the finish.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Cornfield (5276) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - JAN 17, 2008
Great look, pouring (from the bottle) a reddish mahogany body topped with a creamy beige head. The aroma’s almost too sweet for me, dark caramel and molasses with a light roast touch. The flavor, too, is tight on the line so far as how sweet a doppelbock should get, but a very light earthiness manages to keep it in check. Okay.

Its got a real sense of what a good bock should taste like. Rich malts with strong caramel flavors. Its hops is on the back burner. but everything else is outstanding.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 IMtheOptimator (1161) - Bethel, Connecticut, USA - JAN 5, 2008
Bottle from Old Heidelberg in Bethel, CT. Poured a dark mahogany with a small off-white head. Aroma of some toffee, grape, fig, and a bit of alcohol. Taste is surprisingly dry, especially considering the comparably mild alcohol content. Flavors of some dark fruits and a bit of molasses are present, making it lightly sweet and pretty nice to drink. Finishes again with a bit of dryness. Did not knock my socks off, but was agreeable and pleasant to drink.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 holdenn (2023) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 19, 2007
On tap at the Christkindlmarket, Chicago, IL. Pours a dark brown with a smooth tan head in a clear plastic cup. Nuts and chocolate in the aroma. Very malty. Chocolate nutty flavors, roasted grains. Sweet, medium-light body. Nothing to make it stand out, but not a bad dopplebock either. Its nice to get a bit of Germany in Chicago. And although this doesn’t come in a boot, it sure as hell beats the Gluwine.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 thegreenrooster (2806) - St.louis, Missouri, USA - DEC 15, 2007
My first screw cap bottle. The cherry is broke. Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is small amounts of caramel malt and not much else. Flavor is a bit of dark fruit and a wet hop. Some malts come up at the end but nothing to make this one to look for. Pretty poor for the style and it comes from the fatherland!
