RunDWP (112), San Jose, California, USA Apr 15, 2008 Putting chocolate in the mash seems like a little bit of a cheat, but it really works well here. Rich chocolate aroma, jet black color with a tan head. Light toasted flavor blends well with the chocolate. Silky mothfeel, low carbination. I’ve found some organic brews to be a little harsh and rough, but this is the very opposite. Kinda sexy brew!
timsilvia32 (116), born in Michigan, North Carolina, USA Jul 19, 2008 Black/brown pour as it should. Dark tan head. Heavy chocolate coffee nose. Reminds me more of a milk stout, maybe a chocolate milk stout, if there was such a thing. Would drink this one again. BREWMUSKCLES (732), WEEHAWKEN, New Jersey, USA Jul 9, 2008 YES, coffee and mocha chocolate. alcohol seems pronounced and at the forefront of the flavors. winey yet overstrong alcohol flavor that is not particularly enticing. nice and rich malt flavors invade in and improve the mid palate. nice finish that is mellow. just bitter in the dutch cocoa sort of way. it is good beer creamy with nice and creamy head that is quite substantial. chandler0201 (88), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 6, 2008 Not bad stout. Pours dark black with a chocolate aroma. Coffee, mocha, and chocolate flavors. BrewDad (1553), Olympia, Washington, USA Jun 29, 2008 Taster - North American Organic Brewers Festival - Portland, OR
Aroma – Slight chocolate aroma with a strong dark malt backing.
Appearance – Dark Brown in color, thin head and clear.
Flavor – A very nice deep dark chocolate flavor with some gritty malts.
Palate – Nice Mouthfeel, Good gritty malt texture with a dry finish.
Overall – Very nice sample this was a good beer. Liked the flavor and the gritty malts made this a nice chewy beer.
