heemer77 (3667), Savannah, Missouri, USA Apr 4, 2007 From a bomber purchased at Sam’s in Chicago. This poured with a nice dark amber and brown color. The head is khaki with large bubbbles. The aroma has sweet caramel and cherries. Some peanuts are also noted. The taste is rich and roasted with some smoky roasted almonds. There is a hint of cooked cherries that have become very mild. This is a very nice Belgian style beer.
ucusty (1075), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Sep 4, 2008 Vintage 2006. Nose is very fruity, like raisiny, sweet with clovey spices, and vanilla hints; Hazy rusty red with a small beige head; flavor has raisin pie, yeast, and some light hop bitterness, along with some light peppery spices SoLan (1187), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 1, 2008 Dark amber/ruby with a small, off white head. Rich aroma of dark fruits, sweet and bready malt, and some candi sugar. Same flavors, rich and with a bit of warmth. Full/medium body, balanced. Nice, strong winter brew.
mgumby10 (1642), West Palm Beach, Florida, USA Aug 1, 2008 Pours dark brown, with a small off white head. Smells of sweet dark fruits, grapes, and candy sugar. The flavor is of sweet dark fruits and bitter candy sugar. Grapes, figs, and plums seem to be the most noticeable characters detected in the flsvor. Palatable and easy drinking for 9%, decent masking of the alcohol. Not great, but drinkable. travita (737), Lewisville, Texas, USA Jun 4, 2008 Color is marron with a thin head. Smell is raisans, sweet, and grape. Taste is sweet, malty, and fruits. Medium body. Some chocolate. Ok. ross (1531), charlotte, North Carolina, USA May 24, 2008 2006 Bottle. Pours out a brown color without much of a head. Smell is sweet, spicy, and has some raisins in it. The taste is sweet, and really, like eating a raisin. Over carbonated, too sweet, no balance, pretty much a mess. It reminded me of Ommegang - but only in appearance and mouthfeel. Kind of like if unibroue was to brew Raison d’ Etre and add a turd to the mix. My least favorite beer of the weekend last week.
