3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
When it comes to Pilseners, I generally lean towards the Czech versions as this style of beer generally doesn't do too much for me. Having said that, the Bitburger Pils is a giant amongst the style and is worthy of some attention.
An surprisingly enjoyable Pilsener which is far smoother than most on the market. While the traditional hoppy characteristics of the Pils are still weigh heavily on the palette, Bitburger has an exceptional clean, almost mellow, maltiness in both its aroma and taste. Quite dry, in the same lines as the Asahi Super Dry, but far more refined.
Pours a very clear, bright yellow sunshine tone, with a thick frothy head. No collar forms on this and the lacing is minimal, but that's to be expected with this style. Certainly an enjoyable brew and I can sense this one being popular sitting on the sundeck come spring and summer.

Bottle. I think this one is underrated, maybe I just really enjoy hoppy pilseners. I was surprised at the hop flavor on this one. Very drinkable, dry, enjoyable. You can do a lot worse, that’s for sure.

Poured from a pint bottle into a tumbler in mid-March, 2014.
A: See through light yellow.
T: Grain, malt. Some flower.
O: This did have balance, but it was too skunky. Drain pour.

Bottle/tap. One of the most popular german lagers. Eurohops all the way. Fizzy, malty, refreshing and a good abv. Best on tap fresh. You can drink it all summer long. Does not get dull or tiring.

Flaska systembolaget. Ljusgul klar kulör med vitt skum
Doft av ljust bröd och gräs. Smaken är brödig med markerad beska. Ganska tunn men beskan gör ändå avtryck i munnen

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
When I was young, I experianced the Bitburger as a veeery dry beer… How things can change… But in fact, the Bit still is a typical German Pilsener with an axplicit hop character offering a dry finish and a subtle malt sweetness. It’s far away from the hop blasting IPA’s but it’s more refreshing.
A reference for the German Pilsener style. Dry, light and refreshing with a bitter finish. Good beer guys!
