The classic Bitburger - a mature and most agreeable beer - is brewed with the best of ingredients in the same traditional way it has been for many, many years. The result is delicately tart and pleasantly bitter - with a strong hop taste.

Pour out of 500 mL can is clear orange-yellow with white head, aroma has notes of grain, biscuit, earth, buttery crackery malts, some nice snappy pepper and grassy notes, pretty nice. Taste is nice sweet buttered cracker, biscuit, bready yeast, some nice grass and grain, some slight earth and spice notes, hints of floral, finishing fairly bitter with a touch of sweetness. I had my doubts but this is tasty.

Pleasant, refreshing Pilsner with a decidedly hoppy taste and long, relatively dry, bitter finish.

Tasted both in its original form and under the name Bitburger Premium Beer, which is apparently used for export in cans. Sticky snow-white, thinnish and eventually dissolving head on a straw-yellow beer, cristal clear with a continuous, lively, fine sparkling. Grainy and bit doughy aroma, hints of gum, iron, faintly citrussy hops and parsil. Taste more graininess, metallic, pale malt sweetishness, bit tart accent, quite sharp carbonation and peppery and leafy hop bitterness towards the end, long and thirst-quenching. One of the best known German pale lagers but surely far from the best.

50cl bottle from Appellation Wines Comely Bank. Appearance - pale golden with gentle bubbles and a proportionate head. Nose - green beans and sweetcorn. Taste - pale malt and a green herb note that runs into a dry spicy finish. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall -good pils. Very refreshing.

Can. Very pale colour, medium head with fair lacing. Aroma is initially pleasant maltiness and herbal, not so dry as most German pilseners, but after some time the beer becomes boring and watery. Not so bad, but nothing special.

Bottle 50cl, a clear yellow beer with medium head. Nose is on dry malt and grassy hops. Aroma is on the same, thin body, high carbonation, corn sugar background.
