Pours thin and amber. Nose is hops and sweet caramel, taste follows. Palate is full and robust. Great beer.
0.5 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20 tarugo (6) - TURKEY - DEC 15, 2009 does not count
I had this once while in Austin for a visit. I prefer my beer strong yet smooth. This beer is too sweet for me, and weak. I cannot give it a zero rating, so total score is .5 for me. I’ll just drink OJ over this.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 dukefan (213) - Dallas, Texas, USA - APR 17, 2008
On tap at the brewery. A solid hearty, tasty Vienna Lager. Caramelly, with a slight chocolate flavor this is a favorite of mine in this style.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 legion242 (1870) - Richardson, Texas, USA - AUG 15, 2005
Golden Straw, minimal head, very slight grassiness in the nose. Sweet first taste folllowed by signature BE yeast. Nice 1st impression, ’cause I was not looking forward to having to have to drink this one. It just sounds boring.
2.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Walt (2448) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUL 23, 2005
Pour is nice golden hue with a thin white head...the aroma was almost not there...some honey and sweetness was about it...taste is just varied sweetness...again, some honey but lots of grains too...not bad by any means, but the sweetness carried over into the finish which was quite cloying...
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DewBrewer (295) - Austin, Texas, USA - JUL 20, 2005
On draught. Nice lacing and head above a gold/amber, clear beer. It has a nice malt flavor like an octoberfest actually. Very clean and delicious.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 fly (1358) - austin, Tejas, Alabama, USA - JUN 28, 2005
Not bad in the least, but being as tame as it is (or well made, but simply a simple lager) I feel much like a kid forced to eat his vegetables before getting some dessert. Now if I can get some Sour Prick or Happy Jacks I’ll gladly have another.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 HumuloneRed (750) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 15, 2005
Clear light amber in color with a thin layer of head and some lacing. Thin body with a hint of malt in flavor but still more flavor than most light lagers. Watery texture with a weak dry finish. With that said, this beer is not made for people who love beer like myself. There are NO off flavors in this beer. If there was it would be hard to hide. It is a clean beer.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 RateandPillage (426) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - JAN 19, 2005
On tap at Bitter End. Pours medium golden-amber with a small head. Malty aroma and flavor that is balanced with the hops. Something missing though. Didn’t do much for me.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 PorterPounder (4105) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - OCT 27, 2004
UPDATED: JAN 27, 2005 Rerate Tried again - very solid lager, notch up a few points - great balance of malt and hops - great with a meal - solid 3.0 beer Original 2.7 Dark orange appearance with a solid white head. Flavor has some solid bitter notes with some fresh lake water notes. Smooth palate. Good smooth drinking brewpub lager, should please the masses. Reminds me of Sam Adams - perhaps it should be labeled as a Premium Lager.
