JorisPPattyn (4500), Antwerpen, Belgium Jun 8, 2004 Fluffy, bubbly white head, collapsing in small craters, some lace; very pale peach-yellow beer, hazy. "Creamy" nose - impossible to explain without blowing a hashish pipe - I suppose, short of experience. Notes of coffee - in a fully pale beer! Then hops to the fore, like a very-well hopped English ale. Quite bitter taste, bitterness growing even after first recognition, citrussy. Malt for balance is unmistakably. 25 IBU seems very low - it appears to be more. Notes of bitter grapefruit retronasal, gains also some hayaroma's. I have to admit it has a soft, creamy mouthfeel - I wasn’t expecting much of this, but it’s there allright. Surprisingly well-carbonised, but nowhere fizzy. Intruiging because of the rainwater, but interesting because of being one of the few organic beers worth its money. Good show - I hold this brewer in high esteem. Many thanks to the Dewberries! wunderbier (1261), Finland May 22, 2004 Light bread malt (L); flowery hops (VL); hint of lemons in the aroma. Hazy gold/peach body poured without a head. Lightly sweet, moderately acidic flavor becomes a lightly bitter, moderately acidic, slightly husky finish. Medium light body, watery texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: I found this beer to have more acidity than flavor, but I’m goofy like that. aceofhearts (1373), San Francisco, California, USA May 21, 2004 Tap. Okay, let me start by saying that I’m not one to enjoy anything just because it’s "organic", and I don’t go out of my way to get extra enjoyment out of anything sold by hippies or nature freaks like in Austin. And before any of y’all say that I’m from Texas and so my opinion of rabid liberals doesn’t count, you ain’t been to Austin. The other day I was at a stop light, in the middle lane, and the car in front of me, and the ones to its left and right ALL had anti-Bush or pro-Kerry bumper stickers. This beer was a good example of environmental stuff actually coming through. The water came from the Bitter End head brewer’s house, where he has some rainwater catching and filtering system. It makes the mouthfeel something special - smooth, without a bite to it. Normally when I say that a beer doesn’t have bite, it’s a bad thing, but this one is different. It’s "light" in your mouth, for lack of a better word, almost as if the beer is disappearing in your mouth like cotton candy. The organic hops come on strong, punching through until the end. Some standard BE malts, I want more of this stuff!! Humulone_Red (744), Vancouver, Washington, USA May 18, 2004 Murky yellow body yet it is somewhat clear. Small white head. Light herbal hop nose with a little malt. Strange hop bite with a nice malt back ground.
I like the idea of organic beers. I hope we start seeing more of them. fly (1247), austin, Tejas, USA May 17, 2004 Not only is this fantastic by concept, it’s actually a damn tasty beer, which makes it a winner for all. Cheers to Tim Schwartz and crew for another fine beer!
