3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 PorterPounder (4105) - Tallahassee, USA - NOV 2, 2004
On tap in Austin, Tx. Deep dark brown color with a decent sized off white head. Fresh aroma of coffee and a wee bit of bitter chocolate. Thick, creamy mouthfeel. Flavor has some chocolate notes with an underlying fruitiness - not too unlike a cheap wine (in a good way), pleasant combination. Some nuttiness makes its way through in the back end. An excellent brown ale - one of those that you go back for and have more than one of.
2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Walt (2448) - Austin, Texas, USA - FEB 12, 2005
Poured deep brown with no head (bartender)...smell is a littly nutty with lots of resin in the nose...taste is vey similiar...sweet up front but way over hopped everywhere...just not a great example...interesting for a brown but just not good...

Clear redish color with good head and lacing. Bread dough nose. Creamy texture. Bready chocolate notes with some fruitiness. Light in body. Very drinkable.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 AceOfHearts (1375) - San Francisco, California, USA - FEB 11, 2004
Tap. Opaque brown-black, mellow head. Good consistency in the mouthfeel. Malt-dominant, and the lack of a single prominent flavor makes this very interesting. Some chocolate-coffee and hints of fruit that I can't quite place, especially toward the finish. A basic but satisfying beer. Good on a cold night...a "Texas cold night", anyway.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 CaptainCougar (6834) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - JAN 20, 2004
Pours a deep dark brown with a thin off-white head. Lightly sweet caramel malty aroma. Body has nice complexity of mildly roasted malts and a good hop balance toward the finish. A good brown ale.
