To me IPAs should have something to say on a given axis but this is too wimpy. Pours almost flat from the bottle, taste is fine but a little too cat-piss and ultimately has a nasty off taste from lack of carbonation.

(Bottle 5/7-2011) Clear yellow color, creamy taste, no real bitterness, medium sweet. I would not call it an IPA but an APA, it still got American hops.

050711 Cockney pup beer tasting: Golden Engesk IPA as although there ware used American hops (Simcoe and Casade) it is a little dull IPA without much hop flavor. However, overall a good type of English IPA, you just can not taste the U.S. so much, but it is also used First gold.

Live rate. Bottle from Booth’s. Pours marmalade with a fine veil of haze and a loose, dispersing foam. Buttery shorbread and celery dunked in stewed tea aroma- very Yorkshire. Brazen armpit as it warms. Suck of slate, plethora of dunked biscuits inc Rich tea and shortbread. Buttery but in a clean, dripping corn on the cob kind of way. Good- reminds me of Ilkley’s IPA, but badly missing an infusion of hops- where did the Simcoe go??

[500ml bottle, gift from Jim - cheers!] Amber with a moderate creamy head and moderate fizz. Piney, floral aroma. Creamy, almost cloying mouthfeel. Muted flavour of caramel and earth, with just a hint of tropical fruits. A mouth-numbing dry and hoppy finish. Rather disappointing compared to the IPAs I had yesterday from Chiltern and Lovibonds.

Bottle: Deep golden, a bit hazy, smaller stable and lacy off-white head; fresh floral-hoppy nose, sweet juicy malt underneath; moderate bitter-sweet flavour, medium bodied, smooth; slightly lingering aromatic hoppy finish, balanced by sweet malt. Not so heavy like the american samples, but nevertheless likeable....
