dukefan (163), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 17, 2008 A multi-medal winner GABF Wee Heavy winner. A perfect blend of alcohol, smoke, and malts. Yummy to the max, and easily the signature beer of the BE. DewBrewer (244), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 5, 2005 On draught in snifter. 2003 batch aged. Reddish-brown color with small head. The aroma is malty with alcohol apparent. The flavor is sweet, woody, some vanilla, alcohol, some oxidation (in a good way), heather, earthy, vineous, silky, amd mildly hopped. It gets smoky as it warms. It has a big body with good carbonation and is smooth and creamy. Excellent beer! Thanks for holding back some kegs! legion242 (1516), Richardson, Texas, USA May 1, 2003 Very dark. Good head. Fantastic nose, yummy and chewy. Like a thick Casta Morena. aceofhearts (1373), San Francisco, California, USA Sep 16, 2002 RE-RATE: I was drunk the first time I had this beer and relatively sober this time. Wow! I shouldn’t rate beers while lit up. Very handsome pour, slightly amber. HIGHLY complex for a brewpub beer: I got all of chocolate, pears, apples, brown sugar, maple, toffee, caramel. Incredible flavor, one of their best.
ORIGINAL RATING: only 2.8. A wee bit heavy, indeed. It was pretty close to the end of the night and even combined efforts had difficulty in finishing. Good appearance, domniating alcohol indeed, but I didn’t like the aftertaste. nstal (237), Houston, Texas, USA Sep 13, 2002 Alcohol, alcohol, alcohol. This beer came too late in the evening for so much of it. Beautiful dark head.
