COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bitter Root Brewing brews this rich dark ale with a hint of smoke flavor as a salute to English brewers long forgotten.

Bottle. Remarkably similar to the Blue Point Porter I recently had, so I’ll give it the same score. A definite herbal character here aside from basic mediocre porter notes as with the Blue Point, but an indifferent herbal character at that. As the ratings have dictated, not much here.

Bottle courtesy of bitbucket. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of buttery popcorn and sweet malt. Flavor is pretty similar, but mostly sweet, slightly roasted malt. Super sweet. Weak body. it’s not terrible but it’s not very good either. Meh.

Bomber. Pours translucent blackish brown with a lacy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, coffee. Medium-light body and carbonation. Chocolate taste, crisp and smoky (peaty?) finish.

Aggressive pour displayed a thin eggshell head sitting atop a thin brown beer. Not much to describe. Both the nose and flavor were unpleasantly sweet. Unfortunately, there is also a sour quality in the finish that lingers.

ChainGangGuy (3685) - Canton, Georgia, USA - MAY 28, 2008
Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with a bubbly, thin, off-white head. Smell: Dark malt aroma with a note of fruit syrup and a slight smokiness. Taste: Dark maltiness with a chocolate taste and medium sweetness. Hmm. There’s an odd, tart fruitiness that’s somewhat off-putting. Finishes sweetish and questionably fruity. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Not so good; an indefensible porter.

Pours a transparent dark mahogany with a wispy-lacing tan head. Aroma of dry smoky malts with some roasty notes. Body starts lightly sweet and thinner with a hint of tartness and smoky character before a watery semi-tart light fruity finish. Needs more body and sweetness.
