COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bitter Root Brewing brews this rich dark ale with a hint of smoke flavor as a salute to English brewers long forgotten.

Bottle: Dark ruby, brownish edge, moderate foamy beige head, nice lacing.   Combination coffee and cocoa on the nose.   Watery lactic like sourness to start, fades a bit revealing more of the coffee, but the cocoa isn’t as apparent.   Body and mouthfeel are a bit watery.   Finish yields less sourness and a bit more cocoa.   Not bad, but a bit too average, or at least just below average.

Gusler (2654) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAY 8, 2004
The beer after departing the 22 ounce brown bottle sits in the dimpled Raven mug a deep brown to black with some ruby high lights, the head is Brontosauric in size, the color a winsome tan and the consistency creamy, as it ever so slowly dissipates the lace forms a thick and sticky sheet to cover the glass. Nose is sweet, hints of toasted gain, fresh and pleasant to the senses, start is sweet, the malt profile decent and the top middling in feel. Finish is astringent, the hops mild and pleasant to the palate, dry and lingering aftertaste, a nice mild porter and well worth a sample.

220z Bomber, 06/03. Looks like a porter - dark, almost black pour, bright highlights at the edges, little head, some sticky lace. Aromas are chocolatey malt, sweet, not much hop presence on the nose. Taste is not outstanding, but quite good with subtle notes of chocolate, molasses, burnt, tar. Body could be more substantial, but finish has a nice bitterness and dryness. Decent stuff, tough to find outside of the brewery.

Good looking porter, head was gone too quick. Nice little hint of smoke with a touch of chocolate. Finish had nice hop to it.
