3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Muddy red brown pour with off-white decent sized head. Bigger than expected hoppy nose of citrus. Flavor has a nice punch of hops with good solid malt jab to back it up. Good amount of warmth from the alcohol. Nice hoppy finish.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a slightly hazed brick red color with a one finger head of off white foam sitting atop the brew. As the head slowly fades over time it leaves a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is very bready with lots of caramel sweetness as well. Tons of pine aromas mixed with a lighter grapefruit hop create a very pleasing hop base to the smell. There are hints of a roastedness and a moderate showing of a grassy and herbal hop as well, creating a very inviting and pleasant smell overall.
Taste – The taste begins a bit drier then I would have anticipated, but not too dry. There is a lighter caramel sweetness mixed with a decently doughy and lightly toasted bread taste upfront. Along with the more malty tastes are some decent hop flavors of a pine and grapefruit hop. The grapefruit remains relatively constant, but the pine grows stronger and stronger as the taste moves on. All the while the caramel flavors fade a bit and create a drier flavor. With a little bit of a grassy hop joining the more bitter and resinous pine, a slightly dry hopped flavor is left to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker side in terms of creaminess with a carbonation level that is average. The thicker body was fantastic for the drier red flavors of the brew with the carbonation being a nice balance between easy drinking but still supporting of flavor. Well done overall.
Overall – A drier and rather tasty hopped red overall. A great one to try if you get a chance.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Waited a long time to find this, finally came across a lone bottle in the Bozeman Co-Op on my move back to Boise. Sort of muddy, reddish-brown in color and topped with a creamy beige head. Thick lacing. The nose is muted in floral hops, lightly bready. More earthy and floral in the taste, but a heavy bready malt presence. No real spice, but hints of earthy bits and dandelion. The hops a there, but somewhat subdued. No idea how old the bottle is, but it reminds me of an aged Double Bastard (if it were toned down a couple notches). Drinks well.

Very delicious imperial red from bitterroot brewing. I am not a fan of all their beers, but this is great! Well done!

Orange-red pour with an off-white head. The aroma has some dirt, toffee and red malt. The flavor is more of the same with a lot of red malt, grass, dirt and low to medium bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, shared with Parksy and Grippitis. Deep hazy amber orange with a thick creamy off-white head. Sweet caramel malt in chewy proportions with a fruity intense hop profile (Simcoe?), saved from being too sweet by a nice toastiness. Imperial reds can be too cloying for me sometimes, but this one was excellent.
