weezfour (82), Oradell, New Jersey, USA Jun 1, 2008 Wow. My first scharzbier. Didn’t know what to expect. Super dark. Looks like tall glass of coke. Really deep flavor, but not heavy in the least. Finishes smooth, and leaves you trying to figure out what flavors are happening. Amazing. rman18 (174), South Amboy, New Jersey, USA May 10, 2008 Out of the tap the beer is black with a nice sized tannish head of medium sized creamy bubbles. The flavor is of malt and slightly caramel . Overall a nice beer but isn’t my favorite. Dorwart (1621), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Jun 14, 2006 Decent sized dense off white head of creamy bubbles. Does not last real long though. Nice roasty aroma with a bit of bread, vanilla and a decent bitterness. Color is a dark ruby brown. Quite the impressive color. Flavor is malty but a little thin. Lots of roasted grains, some crusty bread and some nutty characters. Again, decent bitterness which lingers after the swallow. Little bit acidic on the palate. Finish is roasty and somewhat creamy. A decent schwarzbier. Dickinsonbeer (2550), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA May 22, 2006 Updated: Jun 16, 2006On tap at the brewpub with illinismitty. Pours a nice deep dark brown almost black, moslty clear and a thin lasting off white head. Aroma is classic- schwarzbier character- nutty roasted dark mlats, some chocolate and some nice toffee caramel aromas with some light herbal hops. Flavor is more nutty burnt malts, dry acrid roasted malts, light caramel sweetness, and finishes fairly dry with a light easy to drink body. Finishes dry and a bit tart. Fairly clean, but lacks a distinct smoothness and richness that you get from a real german schwarz. Pretty good. jcwattsrugger (4045), Florida and, New Jersey, USA May 19, 2006 on tap-pours a tan head with dark brown color. Aroma is sweet, dark malt. Taste is coffee, chocolate, dark malt. Good carbonation. Nice, a good occasional beer.
