A very dark deep red beer with a lasting orange head. The aroma has light notes of wood, alcohol, prunes, and berries. The flavor is sweet malty with a powerful berry note as well as prunes and plums, but also lighter notes of wood and hints of alcohol, leading to a dry woody end. Nice.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Papsoe (22948) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUL 25, 2006
UPDATED: FEB 19, 2007 (Bottle 50 cl) Comes as "Brygmand Sorte Øl". Pours a dark, reddish mahogany with a yeast sediment and a creamy, dense, beige coloured head. Rather neutral aroma - some roasted malt perhaps. Fairly solid body with some roasted malt. Dry - yet with a distinct underlying sweetness. Appears very maturated - and perhaps slightly oxidized? A weak fruity edge. Quite interesting somewhere in the borderland of Schwartzbier and Stout, but still very much its own. 240706

50 cL botte. Pours hazy dark brown and with a diminishing mild chocolate brown head. Mild spice to herbal aroma. Flavour holds a whiskey like note. Mild chocolate and mild caramel smoothness in the flavour. Light acidity. Finish however is slight thin, nice brew though.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 yngwie (9177) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - MAY 26, 2008
Bottle, from trade with papsoe. A clear, ruby to dark brown beer with a beige head. Roasted to burnt, coffeeish aroma, yet quite sweetish, and with some notes of alcohol. Sweet and sticky in the mouth with roasted, or maybe burnt, malt, leading to a lasting roasted finish. Medium to full body, warming and sticky in the mouth. I wasn’t expecting much from this one, considering the other Bjert beers, but it was a decent one, even though it was a bit boring. Don’t think it’s suited for cellaring. (080412)

UPDATED: JUN 12, 2007 Bottle. Pours pitch black with a medium brown creamy head. Aroma has liqouirice, juniper berries, grass and a faint whiff of roses. Taste has an oaky feel to it, combined with juniper and a feeling of thyme. Lightly hopped with a liqourice finish. Quite dry mouthfeel.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Maria (8576) - Thisted, DENMARK - APR 8, 2007
Odin is brown/black with a nice, creamy and golden head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, sweet licorice and caramel. The flavour has the same notes, but also some sweet coffee. I wonder if it’s the malt extract that gives all the brew from Bjert the uniform, smooth sweetness and slightly perfumed note? The overall impression is a bit thin and a bit too sweet for my liking. 1998
