barreling brings out the toasted malt a little more in the beer but is pretty light in aroma and flavor. smooths and thickens it up a little.

@BJís/Florence KY. Clear mahogany with a 2" tan head, sheets of lace. Taste is lightly toasted malt with semi-sweet toffee swirled in. A mild, but clear, hop presence shows at the finish. Drinkable,...but heavy in the stomach. Not quite a success.

On tap. Pours with a tan head and a hazed orange body. Aromas of vanilla and light alcohol. Some caramel, pretty mild/thin aroma. Flavors are fruity, estery, caramel, vanilla, light barrel. Medium bodied, dry, slightly higher than average carbonation.

Bottle shared by Hophead22. A very murky beer like a dark rust color. Tastes of dark dried fruits (dates). Refreshing clean finish, very good beer.

Bottle shared by Hophead22. Pours a muddy orange brown with a small off white head. Aroma is somewhat mild with some dark dried fruits and vanilla, but oak characteristics are pretty mild. Flavor is clean and a little fruity. Really not alot going on and it doesnít seem as malty as the original. Some vanilla is there. Medium bodied with very little carbonation. Easy drinker. Pretty tasty, just milder than expected.

Bottle shared by wolf. As soon as I popped the cap... foam came up all over the place and didnt settle down for two minutes. Muddy red/brown color, good head. DUH?!?! Nice aroma of malt/barley, sugar, some dark fruits and some of the oak coming through. Wow...smooth...really easy to drink. Nice taste as well. 13.4.... No way, to easy to drink for such a high alcohol beer. Taste is sweet but balanced, dark fruits, touch of oak. Carbonation level was high but it didnt take away from the beer at all. Overall I thought this was a great beer and was impressed. Thanks wolf for sharing and tim (hophead22) for sending it!

On cask at San Diego real ale festival. This scared me at first when I took a sniff and smelled a strong presence of oak wood barrel and undeniable whiskey characteristic. But, I fearfully threw back a sip and was instantly gratified with a strong alcohol and woody flavor that made me wonder how could this be a red ale? Anyways I calmly finished my sample and marveled at the strong oak and whiskey notes it sent to me but this is something Iíd definitely need to try again to further my understanding of it.
